Chicago And Detroit Based Duo To Release Underground Dance Single Featuring Remixes From Nicolay And Trackademics
(Brooklyn NY July 18, 2007) Windimoto, a dance music project resulting from the confluence of two self-proclaimed "musical nomads," has announced the release of their debut, The Travels of Windimoto, later this summer on the Interdependent Music label. First up will be the single "Don't Let Me Leave Alone" on CD and vinyl. The single will feature remixes from Nicolay (Foreign Exchange) and Trackademics (E-40, Pharrell, Mistah F.A.B., Lyrics Born).
When DJ Sean Haley's Chicago-fueled house music collided with the soul and funk Scorpeze brought from Detroit, the result was a diverse and eclectic set of recordings combining a wide variety of influences. The goal: making danceable music that would incorporate the best elements of multiple genres. The groups's name is a mashup of the two musician's home-bases - Chicago, aka The Windy City, and Detroit, aka the Motor City. Windimoto unites the driving rhythms of dance, house, and hip-hop with a soulful, jazzy sensibility and craft. Though the sound springs from a pair of unique personalities, together as Windimoto they occupy a shared musical space that invites all comers. In the Windimoto world, no taste or style is unwelcome. Says Scorpeze, "I would think nothing of putting an electric guitar solo in a track, even though that is typically off-limits for this type of music."
Self-proclaimed "music for music lovers," Windimoto pulls together a disco bass beat, Latin percussion, and Motown-inspired harmonies on the lead single "Don't Let Me Leave Me Alone." Newcomer Victor St. Clair, a friend of Scorpeze, joins the duo to provide one more secret ingredient - a smooth R&B vocal. Though first written as an instrumental, the track thrives off St. Clair's contribution, sinking into the mixture with indelible ease. From the crowds in the clubs, to the mp3 players in the street, "Don't Leave Me Alone" is the best kind of accessible, calling you to follow the beat to the dance floor and back home again.
