The Song:

Jumbo and Vursatyl show off their lyrical skills in "Shine Language" from the album deemed "Supa dupa fly!" by XXL Mag: Gutterfly: The Original Soundtrack.  Sandwiched in between excerpts from Ayinde Jean-Baptiste's famous speech at the Million Man March, "Shine Language" couples motivational lyrics with an aggressive beat.  With a fresh use of alliteration, Vursatyl speaks to boys becoming men, while JUMBO speaks to girls becoming women.  For both, the message is the same: "you're all invited…use your mind, cause we gots to shine."  So listen up and get inspired!

The Background:

Jumbo and Vursatyl, collectively known as Lifesavas, bring a signature style of underground hip-hop characterized by funky soul beats, classic team-based rhyming, and high energy performance.  Hailing from Portland, Oregon, they took time out of their sold-out world touring schedule to record their sophomore album, Gutterfly: The Original Soundtrack. Inspired heavily by the 70's blaxploitation film genre, the group joins DJ Shine in adopting characters culled from the decades-abandoned film of the same name.  This "original soundtrack" acts as more of an unofficial retrospective.  Set in fictional Razorblade City, Lifesavas use the characters and setting to relate ideas both personal and social.  The result is a time capsule for an era of urban culture whose time has come and gone, but still holds relevance today.
