Closing out the Official !llmind Remix Album, emcees Mushmouf, Slo-Mo, and !llmind, aka Fortilive, contribute four exclusive tracks. For the song "Cowboys," which features 84, !llmind creates a slow, eerie, sample-based beat as emcees Slo, Mush, and 84 take turns creatively flipping metaphors and clever rhymes about life as a modern day cowboy, bringing a whole new definition to the term "wild west." The three emcees come together at the chorus delivering the song's cold message, rapping "My squad roll thicker, so don't let it go down / The six shooter turning your blocks to ghost towns."
It's rare that a remix and a genuine recreation are one in the same. For !llmind however, this seems commonplace. The ability to not only alter a song, but to make it a fresh, personal re-imagining seems to come naturally for the producer, as is made apparent in his remix of "Childhood" by O.C. He states, "I've always been a fan of O.C.'s music. After I heard that the accapellas leaked, I knew I had to get my hands on them." The dragging, behind the beat feel, paired with the classic progression, makes for an epic build to the next downbeat that never stops. The down tempo intermission provides a sort of contrast, accenting the power that !llmind's beat creates. Background:
After growing up in New Jersey, Filipino-American hip hop producer !llmind made a name for himself competing in the Beat Society against some of the largest hip-hop acts of the day. After gaining his first placement on Akrobatik's "Remind My Soul," !llmind has worked with and produced for Little Brother, Supastition, 50 Cent, Eminem, Redman, Scarface, LL Cool J, Talib Kweli, Ghostface Killah, Strange Fruit Project, and more. His hip-hop group Fortilive mixes his production skills with emcees Mushmouf and Slo-Mo, both natives of Oahu, Hawaii. The group is signed to MYX Music Label, the same label that, along with NahRight, 2DopeBoyz, OkayPlayer, and Audible Treats is sponsoring !llmind's remix album. Featured on the remix collection are four new tracks from Fortilive.
