Critical Praise for Dinner At The Thompson's:

"Feted by the likes of Gilles Peterson, the duo’s intelligent mix of jazz-influenced hip-hop, funk and electronica has been one of the better underground successes of recent years." - BBC

"Dinner At The Thompson’s have absolutely avoided the 'sophomore slump' with their new album, and it’s one that will be hard to not include on the year’s 'best of' lists." - OkayPlayer.com

"When listening to FabLive's incredible range of soundscapes and Lucille's nearly Mystique-esque powers of transformation, you wouldn't want anyone or anything getting in the way of their flow... it's a revelation and a pleasant surprise start to end." - RapReviews.com

The Video:

Since the release of their debut album, Off The Grid, vocalist Lucille Tee and producer Fablive have garnered a variety of praises, ranging from YouTube featuring the duo's video for "It All Began" on their music page, to BBC deeming them a "thoughtful, leftfield success" for trip-hop fans. AOL Music liked Off The Grid so much that they selected the album to be streamed on their Listening Party section during release week, and OkayPlayer.com just proclaimed that the album will be hard "to not include on the year's 'best of' lists." And now, the genre-bending and undeniably funky Dinner At The Thompson's are back with a new thought-provoking video for their single "Beat The System."

Dinner At The Thompson's latest video is considerably darker and more political than their previous ones, but does not fall flat in the funk department. The video is essentially a series of symbolic, and sometimes graphic, photographs that are constructed to make the viewer question the definition of the words like "Father," "Country," and "Happiness," and suspect "the system" in general. They brought on Boston-based MC Insight to drop some call-to-arms bars, such as "Temperature is rising/ Senators are lying/ Tentacles are common/ Generals are silent/ Terrible the violence/ Chemicals combining/ Federal alliance." Throughout the video's striking imagery, Lucille maintains her sultry sensuality while singing the cautionary hook over Fablive's dark and panicky production.

Dinner At The Thompson's new album, Off The Grid, is available now via Earth At Works Records/FB Distribution.

The Background:

There is a saying that opposites attract. Dinner At The Thompson's exist by this rule. She, Lucille Tee, is a New York-born, California-raised singer whose sweet, smoky vocals pull from jazz, soul, and spoken word. He, Fablive, is a France-based producer and multi-instrumentalist, whose influences pull from hip-hop, funk, and electro. Dinner At The Thompson's got its start in 2005 when Lucille, then living in Prague, hopped up on stage to sing with FabLive's band, during a trip to France. FabLive ended up inviting Lucille to the studio to record and the three songs they laid down during the session became the start of their first album, Lifetime on Planet Earth, released in 2007. The album earned the pair acclaim and strong reviews across the board, both from national and international publications, was played on the BBC1 by Gilles Peterson and was named "one of the best albums of the year" by French magazine Vibrations. Now, their sound will be on display on the duo's sophomore LP, Off The Grid, which was released stateside on May 17, 2011 on Earth At Work Records and distributed by Fat Beats.
