“…the best rapper from Vallejo since the last great rapper from Vallejo” – Jeff Weiss

“Nef The Pharaoh is the Bay Area’s next up.” – HotNewHipHop

“Nef the Pharaoh runs neck-and-neck with Kodak Black as the most promising up-and-coming rapper who can’t yet rent a car.” SPIN

The Song:

With his rubbery cadence, exuberant charisma, and extensive slang vocabulary, Nef The Pharaoh is a master at the art of flexing. Rapping circles around a fiery mob-style instrumental courtesy of The Two.Fifteens, Nef stunts on broke rappers on “Bling Blaow,” finding inventive new ways to demonstrate his superior shine: “Dipped in butta, all the hoes fed up/My neck is on ‘WOW!’/Your neck is on ‘shut up’/You the type a n*gga who afraid of the diamond tester/And I’m the type a n*gga who fucked your bitch out in a Tesla.” Premiered by The FADER, “Bling Blaow” boasts a ferocious guest appearance by Slimmy B of Bay Area collective SOB x RBE, the crew behind the viral hit “Anti,” whose perfectly complements Nef’s playful braggadocio with some menacing bars of his own: “Why yo bottom b*tch got a n*gga neck froze / diamonds changing colors like a gecko / Bling Blow make my chest froze / fake n*gga snake n*gga, fuck it let the tec blow.” “Bling Blaow” is from Nef’s upcoming The Chang Project, a 15-track effort releasing this Friday, April 28th.

“The title is the sound of diamonds shining in the dark. If they’re not real they’re not going to shine in low light. Real diamonds shine in any type of light,” Nef The Pharaoh explained to The FADER. “It also compliments the nickname that was given to me, which is another onomatopoeia but for chains hitting each other: Chang Chang. For artists who from the hood, jewelry is our token validation for making it. First thing you do when you get a check is get a grill or a chain. It takes pressure to make a diamond and purchasing a diamond is physical proof that you can survive under pressure.”

Signed to Sick Wid It Records, owned by his mentor E-40, 22-year-old Nef The Pharaoh is the leader of the Bay Area’s new school. Following a radio smash in 2015’s “Big Tymin’,” his two acclaimed 2016 mixtapes, Neffy Got Wings, a full-length collab with “That Part” producer Cardo, and Fresh Outta Space 3, along with a world tour supporting G-Eazy, Nef is ready to transition from regional stardom to national recognition. A high-def and refined sound rooted in the traditional sounds of San Francisco and Oakland, The Chang Project is Nef’s first new project of 2017. In the past two weeks, Nef shared the NOISEY-premiered “Spice,” which featured SOB x RBE‘s Yhung T.O., and teamed up with Ty Dolla $ign for the Billboard-debuted sex jam”Back Out.” Featuring additional appearances from Larry June, Caleborate, OMB Peezy, Jay Ant, and others, but anchored by Nef’s ineffable energy and personality, The Chang Project drops on Friday.
