Video: Z Money – “Shawty Paid Intro” (Prod. by DY & J Money World)

The 1017 Eskimo Signee Takes His Bae to Play with His Shiny New Toys In the Intro Track for the Recent Shawty Paid Album

Critical Praise:

“Z’s appeal is all about swagger, a subtle brand of cocky humor, and a delicate musical touch. Which isn’t to say that it’s an empty exercise in style—although he has style in spades. There’s an unusual quality at the heart of the Z Money project that’s elusive to define, but could be called, simply, ‘art.'”Complex

“As one of the promising new faces to come out of Chicago, Z Money is ready to go full speed ahead.”XXL

“Even though the 25-year-old has work from as early as 2014, setbacks such as his legal troubles and incarceration had put his career on hold until now and, if it wasn’t already obvious, Z Money SZN is upon us.” – Lyrical Lemonade

The Video:

A consummate hustler who likes to spend his hard-earned cash on the finer things, Z Money always has his finances on his mind. Taking a day off from the hustle to spend some quality time at the shooting range, Z Money shares Shawty Paid Intro,” his latest video. Honing his firearms skills with state-of-the-art automatic weapons, Z Money relaxes with his girl, as the video flashes with kaleidoscopic and strobing visual effects. The follow-up this month’s “Wealthy” video, “Shawty Paid Intro” finds Z Money rhyming in his trademark high-pitched cadence atop demonic 8-bit synths and skull-rattling bass courtesy of DY of 808 Mafia, Z Money draws attention to his expensive taste, lists his financial accomplishments, and clowns those whose bankrolls can’t compare. “Shawty Paid” is the titular opening track to Shawty PaidZ Money’s recent mixtape.

Explains Z Money, “The intro is important in setting the tone for everything, and I think this video sets that tone which represents Shawty Paid from start to finish. DY and I have a special chemistry that brings our A game each time. To give visuals that match lifts the sound even more!”

On Shawty Paid, the follow-up to last year’s Chiraq Mogul, Z Money zeroes in on the process of getting money, methodically detailing his hustles and reveling in the fruits of his labor. Wielding his high-pitched sing-song atop sinister beats from the likes of 808 MafiaChaseTheMoneySouthsideBandplayIzzeTheProducer, and others, the newfound ATL native combines the ice-cold honesty favored in his hometown with the extravagant boasts favored by rappers in his adopted city. Prior to the album’s release,  Giving a home to singles Millions,” the Gucci Mane and Hoodrich Pablo Juan-featuring lead single, and the Key Glock-featuring “1017 Paper Route,” and with an additional guest appearance from Yung MalShawty Paid streams everywhere via 1017 Eskimo/Alamo.

The Background:

First coming to the forefront during the Chicago rap boom of 2012, Z Money stood out from the pack for his creative cadences, his malleable, high-pitched flow, which drew comparisons to Z Money’s idol Gucci Mane, and his rejection of the conventions of the drill music that dominated the city in that era. Releasing a series of popular mixtapes packed with street witticisms and raw honesty, Z Money gained cult hero status in Chicago for songs like Regular” and Want My Money,” which Chance The Rapper used in his original trailer for his 2013 breakout mixtape Acid RapIn 2014, Z Money’s meteoric rise came to an abrupt halt when he was forced to spend nearly the whole year in prison for a probation violation. After his release, Z Money rededicated himself to his craft, moving away from his Chicago-based problems and temptations to the rap mecca of Atlanta. In ATL, Z Money caught the ear of a recently free Gucci Mane, who signed him to his fledgling 1017 Eskimo label. Since the signing, Z Money gotten his career back on the road to stardom with ZTM and Chiraq Mogul.
