The Announcement + Video:

Known for raw melody and stark honesty, Jacksonville’s Yungeen Ace and Louisiana’s JayDaYoungan are major up-and-comers in the Deep South rap scene. Melding their sensibilities for a quick and vicious new project, Ace and Jay announce Can’t Speak On It EP. The EP gets a jolt of life from the electric chemistry between the two Cinematic Music Group signees and real-life friends, as the two rappers turn each track into a carnival of melodic taunts and threats, boosting each other with buoyant ad-libs. The two rappers previously collaborated for the street hit Jungle, a soulful rumination on what it takes to survive in violent neighborhoods that racked up over 11 million views on YouTube and 4 million streams on Spotify. Entirely produced by HeartbeatzCan’t Speak On It arrives later this spring via Cinematic Music Group.

To accompany the announcement of the EP, Ace and JDY share Creep Behind,” a new music video for the EP’s lead single. A stern and almost teasing warning against those who’d dare step to them, “Creep Behind” is a hyper-kinetic banger, with Ace and Jay trading bars and layering infectious harmonies above arpeggiating horror-film pianos. The video finds the two upstarts posting up in a trap house with money to burn (literally), awaiting the chance to retaliate against those who have done them wrong.

The new EP will arrive ahead of the “Can’t Speak On It Tour,” featuring both Yungeen Ace and JayDaYoungan. Presented by The Smokers Club, the upcoming tour begins on May 26th in New Orleans, making stops at Center Stage Theatre in Atlanta on June 7th, and at Gramercy Theatre in New York on June 11th. Tickets are now available for purchase. Yungeen Ace and JayDaYoungan will each perform at Rolling Loud Miami on May 11th.

The Background:

Yungeen Ace has built his massive following by standing alone. At 20, the artist born Keyanta Bullard describes his city of Jacksonville as “a jungle.” Originally a Chicagoan, he moved to Duval County, Florida as a child with no friends. Despite 11 brothers, Ace learned fast that if he wanted to survive, he could only rely on himself. “It’s hard out here. Everything we do, we gotta fight for it. We’ve got to go above and beyond just to make it. The surroundings are crazy. It’s a creep city. Nobody is for you out here, so you have to be really for yourself.” In June of this year, Ace was the lone survivor when a car he was riding in was ambushed by a drive-by shooting on Town Center Parkway. Three friends died. Just freed after a bid, the moment was a painful and chilling reminder of the violence epidemic for Ace. It was a dark spot in an otherwise upbeat time. The rapper recently signed with Cinematic Music Group, a label responsible for propelling key new musical voices into the mainstream. With his debut mixtape Life of Betrayal having dropped this past August, Ace is next.
