EP: wifisfuneral – Ethernet 2

The Cerebral Palm Beach County Native Follows-Up Last Year’s Successful Mixtape with a Summer-y Seven-Track Project

6.28.2019

Critical Praise:

XXL Freshman, Class of 2018

“[wifisfuneral] displays an impressive array of verbal acrobatics, showing off masterful breath control and a rapid fire flow.”  – Pitchfork

“He’s synthesized the regionless, borderless world of the internet age from which he takes his name, while lacing it with a narcotically addictive flow and a distinct ear for melody that’s allowed him to develop while others stagnate.” – NOISEY

“The young rapper has a wide range of skills, from agile raps and bass-heavy tracks to dark and moody slow-burners, and his unpredictability is part of his appeal” – Pigeons & Planes

The EP:

Always upfront about his mental demons and struggles with addiction, wifisfuneral’s instrumentals have often matched his lyrical mood–dark, brooding, and cavernous. Letting a bit of sunshine into his music without shying away from the cerebral honesty his fans expect, wifi shares Ethernet 2, his new EP. Though there are still two clattering, bass-heavy bangers on the EP–in the form of previously released singles No Trust” and “30 For 30“–but much of the tape embraces a brighter sound, reverberating with twinkling synths, chiming bells, and liquid keys. The follow-up to 2018’s Ethernet Vol. One mixtape, which racked up over 60 million streams on Spotify alone, Ethernet 2 expands upon the themes of alienation and addiction that defined the first volume, but with a few more tricks up his sleeve, showing off his unexplored melodic ability on “wya pt. 2” and rocking stream-of-consciousness ad-libs on “i really hate pills.” Also featuring the spritely single eggs” and the manic “run?, which peaked at #3 on SoundCloud’s New & Hot ChartEthernet 2 EP is available everywhere via Alamo/Interscope.

As an added surprise, the 22-year old rapper shares “Something,” a SoundCloud-only bonus track. Produced by Foreign Teck, “Something” is a high-energy trap song, highlighted by wifi’s auto-tuned hook.

Ethernet 2 arrives ahead of wifi’s Free Weef Tour, a headlining national tour spanning this summer. Presented by The Living Dead, the tour starts on July 11th in Seattle, passes through Los Angeles on July 18th (Los Globos) and Brooklyn on August 1st (Kingsland), before wrapping up with four hometown shows in Florida from August 8th-11th. With supporting performances from Camp Yola and #2Stoned, the “Free Weef Tour” is wifi’s second national tour of the year, following the “Conn3t3d Tour” with Robb Bank$. Last week, wifisfuneral paid tribute to his late friend XXXTentacion with Alone As A Facetat,” a video for a track from his late 2018 Leave Me The F*ck Alone EP.

The Background:

21-year-old South Florida rapper wifisfuneral has taken his dark sonics, mature-beyond-his-years lyrics, and trunk rattling bass from the streets of Palm Beach to the world, amassing over 1.7 million monthly listeners on Spotify and over 700,000 followers on various social media platforms. wifisfuneral’s growth has been organic and cult-like, with his fans spreading his music like wildfire with each and every release. With virtually zero promotion other than his social media presence, wifisfuneral’s independent projects Black Heart Revenge (May 27th, 2016) and When Hell Falls (January 27, 2017) reached #69 and #17 on the iTunes hip-hop charts respectively, resulting in a label deal with Alamo and Interscope Records. His major label debut mixtape, Boy Who Cried Wolf, received critical acclaim, with two of the tracks earning placement in the Spotify’s coveted Most Necessary playlist. His latest mixtape, Ethernet, was released in June 2018 via Alamo Records. In 2018, wifisfuneral was officially named to the XXL Freshman List and reached #1 on YouTube’s trending chart. Most recently, wifisfuneral appeased his fans with Leave Me The Fuck Alone EP, a four-track effort with production from frequent collaborators HenryDaher and Cris Dinero.
