The Video:

Singer/songwriter Victoria Monét throws it back to the days of FUBU and VHS tapes with her “90’s Babies” visual, which premiered via V Magazine. “…everything about the video might feel nostalgic and bring back some memories of the music of a couple decades back, but the actual sound is modern, progressive, and showcases Monét’s forward-thinking artistic mindset,” HYPETRAK raved. “90’s Babies” is the first single from her forthcoming EP, Nightmares & Lullabies: Act II.

The video, which was filmed with a Panasonic VHS camcorder, presents a sense of nostalgia for the era Victoria was raised in. “When you’re watching the video I want you to say ‘ooh shoot, remember the Easy Bake Oven,’ or ‘oh, I remember I had the roller skate shoes,'” she explains. “I want people to recall a time when we were outside playing before the street lights came on. Whatever the memory is for you, just to go back and smile about it.”

Victoria Monét is featured on hits ranging from T.I.’s “Stay” and Machine Gun Kelly’s “A Little More,”but it’s with her debut EP, Nightmares & Lullabies: Act I, that her artistic vision crystalized. The five-track project, which has features from artists such as B.o.B and Ty Dolla $ign, saw the pure-voiced singer at her most versatile moments. Victoria has worked on Ariana Grande‘s debut and sophomore album as well as tracks for Nas, Chrisette Michele, and Fifth Harmony. “If people can hear me and relate to me and be inspired by me, that’s the point,” she said. “Everybody has their own ups and downs, and if everyone can make music to express it, we’d probably have a lot better understanding about each other.”

Victoria Monet Background:

From her toddler days spent growing up in Sacramento, California, R&B singer Victoria Monet has used various creative mediums-dancing, singing, poetry-to express herself, using lessons gleaned from relationships and her interpretations of the world around her to find her niche as a sensual vocalist with unparalleled songwriting skills and, most importantly, a message that people can relate to.

Fans may recognize Monet from features on hits from T.I. and Machine Gun Kelly, but it was with her 2014 debut EP Nightmares & Lullabies – Act 1, which touts guest appearances from B.o.B and Ty Dolla $ign, that her artistic vision crystalized. Monet’s music may be intensely personal, but it’s relating to her listeners that keeps her motivated. “I feel I want to share my own story,” she says. “There’s a girl out there who was shy like me, who maybe didn’t know how to express herself any other way. I want to represent that person, the underdog that no one thought would make it and would just be submissive and not be heard.”
