Pioneering an emotional and expressive strain of Southern Rap, Florida rhymer Rod Wave wears his heart on his sleeve. Reflecting on his path from poverty to prominence, Rod Wave shares “Bottom Boy Survivor,“ his latest video. With a guitar-laden, countrified instrumental courtesy of TNT, Yung Tago, & Trillo, “Bottom Boy Survivor” gets its power from Rod’s emotive singing and poignant lyrics. For a man who suffered so much hardship in his youth, conquering the rap game only provides only a brief distraction from the memories his of his past: “You see a bottom boy survivor/Even though he’s at war, he keep it solid/Even though he take L’s, they’re all in silence/Even though he been quiet, he been cryin’.” In the video, Rod returns home to Florida, standing tall as grainy images of his old neighborhood scroll by on screen, representing the past he can’t escape. “Bottom Boy Survivor” is the concluding track of PTSD, his recent mixtape.

Released in June, PTSD collects Rod’s soulful, introspective, and hard-hitting recent singles, including his mission statement “Popular Loner” (6.9 million YouTube views and a recent Genius Verified video), the guitar-speckled recounting of his rise “Tru Story,” and the brilliantly-sung “Hard Times” (1.4 million streams on its official YouTube audio). The new mixtape shows Rod’s romantic side the devotional love song “Paint The Sky Red,“ reaches a celebratory peak with “Calabasas,” which features an appearance from rap legend E-40, and shows a great deal of self-awareness on the Pitchfork-approved “Heart On Ice.“ With production from Go Grizzly, TNT, D Major, Yung Tago, and more, PTSD is available everywhere via Alamo Records.

Rod Wave is currently on the road, headlining the “Heart On Ice Tour,” which tours several cities around Florida and Georgia before bouncing to the West Coast in August, including a date in Los Angeles on August 23rd at Catch One.
