With a powerful and expressive singing voice and a deep sense of morality, Rod Wave always wears his emotions on his sleeve. Working through his issues and struggling to keep his feelings in check, Rod Wave shares “Heart On Ice,” his latest video single. The Alamo Records signee is a unique figure in a business that often values a clinical and cold attitude over sensitivity. On the poignant, piano-led “Heart On Ice,” Rod spots a catch-22–pent up emotion leads to aggressive behavior, but being an open wound can foment a lack of respect: “No one could understand, I had way too much aggression/That built over the years from my abandoned adolescence/See I done been lied to, backstabbed, and heartbroken/I wanted to cry but I was too afraid to open.” Faced with an impossible choice, Rod decides “I’ma put my heart on ice, it’s gettin’ the best of me.” In the video, Rod enjoys the successes brought on by his emotionally honest music, including a performance at Rolling Loud Festival.

Carrying the weight of his St. Petersburg, FL community on his shoulders, Rod Wave is quickly becoming a cult figure. “Heart On Ice” is the latest in a line of moving and melodic loose singles, including the guitar-speckled “Tru Story,” February’s “Hard Times,” which has over 1 million plays on YouTube, and the music video for “Popular Loner,” which eclipsed 2 million views in recent weeks.
