Some projects are just perfect for a particular season of the year, and you'll be hard-pressed to find a new release better for the spring, and the arrival of warm weather that comes with it, than Clean Ass Whip, the new mixtape from Bay Area do-it-all Prince Aries. Self-described as West Coast Cruising Music, Clean Ass Whip skips from track-to-track, delivering a carefully selected and deftly mixed collection of old school classics and brand new exclusives that were made for listening to with windows down, car stereo speakers blasting.
To give the project an added, personal touch, Aries dug through the crates of his own vinyl collection, with much of the vinyl (song selections ranging from Too $hort to Concious Daughters, and more) coming from the artists themselves, as Aries spent time interviewing them for Distortion 2 Static, the hip-hop TV program he co-founded shortly after moving from NYC to the Bay. "As far as the mix itself, it's just a refection of myself as a DJ," says Aries. "I feel like it had everything a good mixture needs. Exclusive tracks, remixes, blends, drops, rare singles/b-sides/album cuts and classics. And put together in a way that can be played easily from beginning to end."

Fans in the Bay can celebrate the release of Prince Aries' Clean Ass Whip mixtape at the official Clean Ass Whip Release Party this Thursday, May 5th, at SOM (2925 16th St., San Francisco, CA 94108). Resident hosts REL, Star, Al Jieh, and Getlive Ro and resident DJs Haylow, A-Ron, and Boogie Brown will be partying all night, and there is no cover or dress code.
In addition, fans of Aries' Distortion 2 Static program can look forward to a brand new season of the show, and to celebrate Aries and the D2S team will be throwing a Relaunch Party on May 14th at 330 Ritch. The season premiere of D2S will be May 16th on MYX, and May 21st on KOFY.

Aries Nuñez, known to the entertainment world as Prince Aries, has quite a few cards up his sleeve. Though his passion lies in music and his love for DJing, Aries became a fundamental player in the Bay Area's new renaissance - promoter, graphic designer, TV show personality, and producer - with his multimedia background placing him a cut above the rest. When his groundbreaking show, Distortion 2 Static, got picked up by a local Bay Area television station after only two seasons on Public Access, he knew that he had his finger on the pulse of a movement that started simply as a way to share his love for hip-hop. Prince Aries recently released his west coast cruising mixtape, Clean Ass Whip, via SWTBRDS.

Background:
SWTBRDS (pronounced Sweetbreads) is a Bay Area-based record label that exemplifies the raw, rare and boutique qualities of its namesake. Founded in 2009, it houses rapper, DaVinci, renaissance DJ, Prince Aries, DJ + rapper duo StreetMedia, as well as the dynamic production team, Drums & Ammo, featuring the collective musical work of producers Ammbush, REL, Al Jieh and 6Fingers.
