spacer Video/MP3: Jern Eye – "Beautiful" + "Something's Wrong" / Album Drops Today 10.13.2009
spacer Jern Eye Celebrates Album Release With Dual Video, DJBooth Freestyle Feature spacer

The Video & MP3:

With his new album Vision dropping today, Jern Eye has been staying busy – releasing mixtapes, blogging for, and now, working on his latest video. With the first official video release from Vision, Jern also gives fans a special treat, as the Bay Area emcee uses two different songs off the album, a purposeful decision on Jern's part: "We purposely chose to splice the two songs of which both are produced by !llmind, to show the duality of one's life having both love and beauty along with both hardship and struggle. I think it's dynamic and very reflective of my real life."

The video starts off with the track ''Beautiful," where Jern touches on the positive side of things, wifey included. Lines like "Attitude got me on another altitude / Out of this world, how she workin' my latitude" show that lyricism doesn't have to be sacrificed when coming through with an uplifting, love-inspired song. Speaking on the inspiration for the "Beautiful" portion of the video Jern says, "The 'Beautiful' video was inspired by trying to capture something that would reflect a day in the life of two people in love. When I stepped to the director Lorenzo Escalante about the idea, he absolutely loved the idea of filming a story based video."

The second part of the video chimes in about halfway and dramatically changes the tone for the rest of the video, as it takes the listener to the darker side of things. Jern Eye chose to use the song "Something's Wrong" for this specific reason. !llmind provides hard hitting drums with a grimy guitar sample topped and a eerie vocal sample to complete the track. Jern Eye holds nothing back in his verbal attack with lines like, "By the look in your face, I can tell you're in the wrong place / By your eyes shifting I can see you a knucklehead who don't listen," and "I walk with a chip, I could give a sh*t about fame." The second half of the video was filmed by Charles Barcelona and was shot at the train yards in Oakland.

On another note, Jern Eye recently met up with and kicked a freestyle, #96 in's Freestyle Feature series. Be on the lookout for Jern Eye's new album Vision which will be available everywhere today via MYX Music Label.

The Background:

Los Angeles native Jern Eye began crafting his skills early on at freestyle battles in famous L.A. clubs. Jern formed the staple west coast group, Lunar Heights, with friend and fellow emcee Spear Of The Nation shortly after high school, and the group eventually migrated north to Oakland to join the Bay Area's flourishing independent hip-hop scene. Once in the Bay, the group was joined by Khai Sharrieff as they began making a name for themselves opening for a number of well known groups, including Crown City Rockers, The Pharcyde, The Procussions, and more. The group subsequently released their solo effort, Crescent Moon, to high acclaim. Jern followed three years later with his solo debut, Authentic Vintage, in 2006, and toured with Hieroglyphics and Living Legends as a result of the album's success. Jern Eye's sophomore album, Vision, features production from !llmind, Jake One, Keelay & Zaire, DJ Vinroc, Def Supreme, Phil Jahns, and Artek, and collaborations with artists Cali Agents, Mistah F.A.B., Zion I, Guilty Simpson, Nightclubber Lang, and more looks to make the case for Jern's upward movement as a legitimate hip-hop talent on a national level. Vision is available now via MYX Music Label.
