The Mixtape: Odds are, you’ve probably been exposed to Chippy Nonstop by now. Whether it was when she belly-danced all over Stunnaman’s “You’s A Chote” video, or during one of her features in an Andy Milonakis video, or that time you saw her get thrown out of a club, Chippy has steadily become a ubiquitous person of interest. And now, this NC-17 party rap debutante is formally introducing herself to the world with her first mixtape, #GlobalSkoolOfTwerk. Although this is officially her debut project as a solo artist, Chippy has already released a number of singles and collaborated with the likes of Diplo, and, most recently, Big Baby Gandhi and Star Slinger. In fact, it was Mad Decent’s own Paul Devro who encouraged the Dubai-born, Bay Area-based cherry bomb to start rapping. “He was like, ‘Yo Chippy, why don’t you try out rapping!?’” says Chippy. “I mean, I’ve always ‘rapped’ sloppy freestyles at parties mainly, but I maintained people’s attention somehow with my energy.” On #GlobalSkoolOfTwerk, Chippy serves up a heaping plate of rump-shaking club rap with her own distinct flavoring. She spits flirtatiously grimy rhymes in both Hindi and English over Nanosaur -produced beats ranging from hyphy to house. There’s even a song called “Kicked Out Da Club,” where she celebrates her reputation for pushing clubs beyond their Chippy-threshold. Inspired by the party rap of the ‘90s, #GlobalSkoolOfTwerk combines her “what-is-caring?” attitude with a sincere intention for everyone to get up and dance. “I like to construct songs, create on emotion and evoke a feeling, even if the feeling is just shaking your ass,” says Chippy. In addition to dropping her #GlobalSkoolOfTwerk mixtape, Chippy will also be featured on the upcoming Major Lazer album, as well as on Kreayshawn’s debut album, Something About Kreay.
