Mixtape: Marty Grimes – Martyjuana

Premiered by RESPECT, Marty Grimes Celebrates His Day Ones with Martyjuana Tape; Continues West Coast Tour

Critical Praise

“[Marty] Grimes expanded his range both lyrically and musically, while staying true to his Bay roots…This more vulnerable approach seems to have resonated with fans.” – East Bay Express

The Mixtape:

Well-known in the Bay for his entrepreneurial spirit, Marty Grimes has been breezily scaling the steps to success. Armed with a admirable work ethic, the childhood best friend of G-Eazy brings positive vibes with his RESPECT Mag-premiered EP, Martyjuana. Named after his custom marijuana company, the newest project from the Berkeley hustler boasts down-to-Earth rhymes, melodic flows, and murky, homegrown beats. Arriving hot on the heels of the swirling, Mass Appeal-premiered “Doin’ Thangs”, the breezy “All Good,” premiered by HipHopDX, and the family-focused, REVOLT-debuted “As Long As I Got,” Martyjuana is a twelve-track ode to everything that is Marty Grimes: unflinching dedication to family and craft.

“When I burn one I don’t usually wanna listen to some turnt up music, I normally catch a vibe to something chill,” explains Marty Grimes. “Some time ago I was presented with an opportunity to have my own weed strain, which I named ‘Martyjuana.’ Since then that’s all I’ve been smoking while making music, and I chose to name the mixtape after it. I really just wanted to tell my story. My stories consist of my past experiences, some might be bits and pieces from different situations and some might be what actually went down. I guess you can say my fans helped push me because I felt they didn’t know enough about me. That’s the reason I didn’t have many features, I wanted to them to hear and understand me 100%. I’m trying to promote the good life–trying to make people understand we all go through things but in the end we still choose the way we feel about our own lives.”

With a year full of tours and releases under his belt, Marty Grimes is popping off into 2017, not even close to slowing down. Following a busy 2016 opening for G-Eazy on the When It’s Dark Out Tour and the Endless Summer Tour, plus opening for Lil Wayne, 2 Chainz, Migos, Boosie Badazz, and Juvenile at Oakland’s Oracle Arena, Marty Grimes is capturing eyeballs from coast to coast. The proprietor of Berkeley’s renowned Gioia Pizzeria, he created a popular, pizza-themed line of merch, available at his online store. More recently, Marty founded Martyjuana, a designer brand of custom weed strains. Available at the esteemed LA-based cannabis club Buds and Roses, Martyjuana sold out of their first custom strain called Berkeley Honey and he is set to release his second strain: OG Grimes. Earlier this week, Marty hosted a social media takeover of GoodMusicAllDay and sat down with The Lunch Table for an interview about his pizzeria. With his longstanding mantra “Music, Pizza, and Weed,” Marty Grimes established himself as the ultimate lifestyle rapper.  Catch him on his Martyjuana Tour, which stops in Denver tonight, and continues across the West. Says Marty, “I’ve been waiting for this moment for the longest, it’s nothing like having your own team with you playing your music for a crowd that came for you. We turn up, we get personal, we get lit, I’m bringing martyjuana and Maker’s to every stop.”
