The Video:
Topping charts on SoundCloud with his melodic trap, bespectacled Queens artist Lil Tecca cuts a unique figure in the hip-hop scene. Traveling down to the Dominican Republic with director Cole Bennett, Lil Tecca has a blast in “Ransom,” his latest video. With a bouncy and bright beat that perfectly complements the Caribbean surroundings, “Ransom” finds the 16-year-old artist pridefully touting his originality, threatening to mess up anyone who jacks his flow: “I know I’m boutta blow-oh-woah-oh, I ain’t dumb/They try to take my flow, I take they ass for ransom.” In the video, premiered on the Lyrical Lemonade channel and enhanced by Cole Bennett’s trademark illustrations, the video finds Tecca and his friend Buru going dumb in a tropical resort, dancing on the golf course and getting fit with a team of strippers in a hotel gym.
With over 2 million streams in its first 24 hours, “Ransom” sits at #4 on SoundCloud’s charts and is currently trending on Apple Music. Another successful single for the Springfield Gardens-born emcee, “Ransom” follows hits like “Molly Girl,” which topped SoundCloud’s New & Hot chart in April and currently sits on the Most Necessary and Clout Culture playlists. With impactful singles like the Taz Taylor & Nick Mira-produced “Did It Again” and the Pitchfork-praised “Love Me” earning millions of streams, Lil Tecca is on the fast track to superstardom.

Lil Tecca Background:
Performing a distinct melodic trap style but hailing from Queens, recording artist Lil Tecca is breaking through in 2019 releasing hit after hit and creating a genre of his own. Raised by Jamaican parents in Springfield Gardens, you can hear the dancehall influence sprinkled in many of his songs. He started rapping in his early teens, inspired by Speaker Knockerz, Chief Keef, and a couple of others, but has only been releasing music for 9 months. At just 16 years old, he has started to build a huge following online releasing singles “Count Me Out”, “Love Me”, “Did it Again”, and “Molly Girl”. “Did it Again” produced by Taz Taylor and Nick Mira charted at #4 New & Hot Worldwide on SoundCloud and has over 6 million plays on the platform in 3 months. His most recent single, “Molly Girl” charted at #1 New & Hot Worldwide and has over 3 million plays in the first couple of months. Lil Tecca’s growth has also carried over to DSPs–the young rapper made the cover of Fresh Finds and currently being on Most Necessary & Clout Culture. The hype around Lil Tecca continues to grow with each new release, and although it’s been a year since he’s been making music, 2019 will be his biggest year yet with festival appearances and shows around the world.
