Video: Lil Durk – “Neighborhood Hero” (Produced by Nassi)

The Chicago Rapper Shares a Heartwarming, XXL-Premiered Video as He Salutes Unsung Neighborhood Figures, Ahead of Next Week’s Signed to the Streets 3 Release

11.2.2018

Critical Praise:

“Unshackled from any kind of outline, Durk’s pen game shines. His rise was dotted with blood-soaked tales that summarized much of drill’s appeal: ground-level glimpses at Chicago’s South Side that colored in the outline offered by grim murder statistics.” –Pitchfork

“Lil Durk continues to be one of the most consistent rappers out.” – The FADER

“the rose that blossomed from the concrete of Chi-Town’s drill music scene” – Billboard

The Video:

A proud native of Chicago’s South Side, Lil Durk does whatever he can to give back to the neighborhood that birthed him. Assuming the mantle of savior, and encouraging others to give back as well, Durk shares Neighborhood Hero,” his latest video. Spinning a effortlessly catchy, halting flow, Durk expounds on what it means to be a hero in a poverty-stricken neighborhood–in the past, Durk has hosted back-to-school backpack giveaways, coordinated Thanksgiving turkey drives, and helped to support local youth sports to make life easier for those in the South Side. In the moving video, shot in black-and-white, Durkio shines a spotlight on under-heralded heroes who make help keep his neighborhood afloat, from local football coaches, to tattoo artists, to radio DJs, to street performers, and more. The release of the video also marks the start of the Neighborhood Hero campaign, in which Durk and other artists, including Meek MillT.I., and Trae Tha Truth, highlight their efforts towards improving their communities. Premiered by XXL, “Neighborhood Hero” is the latest video from Signed To The Streets 3Durk’s highly-anticipated upcoming album, following “Rockstar,” which features a guest spot from Lil Skies. Catch “Neighborhood Hero” on Spotify’s “Off The Strength” playlist, featuring Lil Durk on the cover.

Durk explains how he feels about being a neighborhood hero, “It feels good to be in a place now where I can give back to my community. Coming from I’m from, I never expected to be looked at as a hero but it feels good to inspire kids who look up to me now and think, ‘If Durk can do it, so can I.’ I want to continue to uplift and that’s why I formally set up my non-profit earlier this year, called Neighborhood Heroes. In addition to setting up turkey drives and backpack drives again, we are going to be doing bigger and better things. More to come, stay tuned.”

Continuing an acclaimed and popular series of projects he started as a 21-year-old in 2013, Signed To The Streets 3 is a coronation for Lil Durk, affirming his position as a major rap star and confirming his influence on a new generation of melodic street rappers. The upcoming album features popular previously-released singles like the Future-featuring “Spin The Block,” which has over 13.5 million views on YouTube, the recently released “Downfall,” with guest spots from Young Dolph and Lil Baby, and the slow-burning hit “Home Body,” featuring Gunna and TK Kravitz, which has over 6.4 million plays on Spotify and is currently burning up rap radio. Featuring additional appearances from Kevin GatesKodak BlackTy Dolla $ignGunna, and A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, Signed to the Streets 3 releases on November 9th via Alamo/Interscope.

Lil Durk is having a busy 2018, marked by multiple mixtapes, a label change from Def Jam to Alamo, a move from Chicago to Atlanta, and, just this week, the birth of his youngest child. In March, he released his first project since departing Def Jam, Just Cause Y’all Waited, an important transitional record for Durk. Praised by Pitchfork, who wrote “Lil Durk writes about Chicago the way Joan Didion once captured California,” Just Cause Y’all Waited features tracks such as the buzzing 1-773 Vulture,” a street remix to Logic’s hit single “1-800-273-8255” that reached the 9 million view mark on YouTube, and the Lil Baby-featuring lead single “How I Know,” which earned prominent placement on Spotify’s Most Necessary playlist. Featuring additional appearances from PartyNextDoor, Ty Dolla $ignGunna, and TK Kravitz, and with production from 808 Mafia and others, Just Cause Y’all Waited EP is a formidable appetizer for Signed to the Streets 3. Lil Durk turned heads when he performed his hits in a prime time slot, and later joined Tee Grizzley onstage at the Rolling Loud Festival in Miami (catch a few clips from this performance and from backstage in the “Remembrance” video) and recently showed off his label signees with Lil Durk Presents: Only The Family Involved Vol. 1
