The Song:

With the recent mainstream success of Sage The Gemini and Iamsu!, California’s HBK Gang shows their depth with P-Lo’s newest single “Going To Work” from his forthcoming MBMGC2 mixtape, which The FADER debuted today. Borrowing from Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs‘ “Whistle While You Work,” rapper and producer Iamsu! combines chirpy whistles with claps, shouts, and a three-note bass-line to create a minimalistic certified slapper that shows yet again why HBK Gang is one of the most talented and talked about cliques in hip hop today.

“Going To Work” is the first single from P-Lo’s upcoming MBMGC2 (M0re Bitches More Gold Chains 2) mixtape. Slated for a Dec. 9 release, the mixtape features production from The Invasion (Iamsu!, P-Lo, Jay Ant, Kuya Beats, and Chief) and moreWith P-Lo’s production work for Yo Gotti‘s hit “Act Right” and his fellow HBK Gang patnahs being responsible for no fewer than a half-dozen Billboard charting singles, this latest cut from P-Lo matches the potential of their previous hits and further solidifies their chart-topping dominance.

Iamsu! Background:

2012 was nothing short of a breakout year for Iamsu! The 22-year-old popped up with a triple-threat performance on LoveRance’s “UP!,” which Su! produced, penned the hook for, and guested on with a scene-stealing verse. The song peaked at number one on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop chart, and in the midst of that success, Su! again delivered a fan-favorite verse on a big-time radio single, this time with E-40′s”Function.” Su! followed that success with a solo mixtape, KILT, and the critical acclaim came in droves, as the project was hailed by SPIN as their Rap Release Of The Week, with the outlet also naming Su! as one of their 5 Best New Artists for June ’12. Su!’s been plenty busy since – a west coast tour; a collaborative mixtape with Jay Ant; a standout collaboration with Wiz Khalifa“Bout Me,” that appeared on Khalifa’s Cabin Fever 2 and will also show up on his sophomore album, O.N.I.F.C.  Iamsu! released the mixtape $uzy 6 $peed, presented by Bay Area streetwear company Pink Dolphin which released an exclusive t-shirt and hoody for the tape. Iamsu! is back to work already in 2013, with the release of Million Dollar Afro, a collaborative mixtape with Compton rapper Problem. Iamsu! released his new solo mixtape, KILT 2, which is available now on LiveMixtapes, as well as the remastered deluxe edition, which is available via iTunes. More recently, Iamsu! along with his HBK Gang, which includes Sage the Gemini, P-Lo, Kool John, Jay Ant, Skip, Rossi and CJ, released a posse mixtape entitled Gang Forever and headlined a tour to support it as well.

HBK Gang Background:

If you haven’t yet heard of the HBK Gang, it’s time to get acquainted. Producer and rapper Iamsu! is considered one more of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful young independent artists in rap with his hits with E-40 (“Function,”) Wiz Khalifa (“Bout Me,”) 2 Chainz  (“Livin’,”) Lovereance (“Up,”) and more. Producer P-Lo (of The Invasion) has the driving force behind the West Coast’s current, radio-dominating sound; he’s produced singles for Yo Gotti (“Act Right”), Wiz Khalifa (“‘Bout Me”), and more; Sage The Gemini has been equally prolific, with the single, “Gas Pedal” and now “Red Nose,” which was certified gold and is charting on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. The rest of the crew includes members Skip, Rossi, CJ, Jay Ant, and Kool John, who were all featured on the recently released crew mixtape, Gang Forever.
