The Video:

Few young crews have experienced the success, both critical and commercial, that HBK Gang has experienced in 2013. The crew, led by Iamsu!, recently released their Gang Forever mixtape, and the project serves not only as a fine example of the collective talents of the crew, but also as a nice capstone to their recent achievements – Iamsu! just headlined his first solo tour, played Rock The Bells, and a recent Scion A/V Open Mic show in Brooklyn; Sage The Gemini‘s “Gas Pedal,” which features Iamsu!, was recently certified gold by the RIAA, and his second single, “Red Nose,” (both tracks sit comfortably on Billboard’s Hot 100) is well on its to similar sales numbers; P-Lo produced, “Act Right,” the lead single from Yo Gotti‘s forthcoming album. The rest of HBK Gang – Skip, Rossi, CJ Jay Ant, and Kool John – are just as talented, and the video for the crew’s latest single, “Quit Cattin’,” is a testament to that fact.

The song features Kool John, Skipper, and P-Lo, the latter of whom also produced the song, and the video is directed by David Camarena of TYCA. Of the track, Kool John says, “I was planning on fucking this [insert expletive for “nice girl”]. She said she was gonna plan a threesome, so I catted off on the studio to go do that, but then the girl ended up catting. While I was texting her the song idea hit me. It’s an anthem for all the n*ggas to play for all the cattin’ ass girls.”

Tonight, Iamsu! and Sage The Gemini are performing at Echoplex in Los Angeles tonight as part of IHeartComix’ Check Yo Ponytail party series. Details on the show are below.

Iamsu! Background:

2012 was nothing short of a breakout year for Iamsu! The 22-year-old popped up with a triple-threat performance on LoveRance’s “UP!,” which Su! produced, penned the hook for, and guested on with a scene-stealing verse. The song peaked at number one on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop chart, and in the midst of that success, Su! again delivered a fan-favorite verse on a big-time radio single, this time with E-40′s”Function.” Su! followed that success with a solo mixtape, KILT, and the critical acclaim came in droves, as the project was hailed by SPIN as their Rap Release Of The Week, with the outlet also naming Su! as one of their 5 Best New Artists for June ’12. Su!’s been plenty busy since – a west coast tour; a collaborative mixtape with Jay Ant; a standout collaboration with Wiz Khalifa“Bout Me,” that appeared on Khalifa’s Cabin Fever 2 and will also show up on his sophomore album, O.N.I.F.C.  Iamsu! released mixtape $uzy 6 $peed, which was released exclusively through LiveMixtapes on November 10th. The tape was presented by Bay Area streetwear company Pink Dolphin, which released an exclusive t-shirt and hoody for the tape. Iamsu! is back to work already in 2013, with the release of Million Dollar Afro, a collaborative mixtape with Compton rapper Problem with whom he co-headlined a tour to support the release. Iamsu! released his new solo mixtape, KILT 2, in conjunction with LiveMixtapes, which is available now, as well as the remastered deluxe edition, which is available via iTunes. More recently, Iamsu! along with the rest of his HBK Gang members, which include Sage the Gemini, P-Lo, Kool John, Jay Ant, Skip, Rossi and CJ, released a posse mixtape entitled Gang Forever and headlined a tour to support it as well.

HBK Gang Background:

If you haven’t yet heard of the HBK Gang, it’s time to get acquainted. Producer and rapper Iamsu! is considered one more of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful young independent artists in rap with his hits with E-40 (“Function,”) Wiz Khalifa (“Bout Me,”) 2 Chainz  (“Livin’,”) Lovereance (“Up,”) and more. Producer P-Lo (of The Invasion) has the driving force behind the West Coast’s current, radio-dominating sound; he’s produced singles for Yo Gotti (“Act Right”), Wiz Khalifa (“‘Bout Me”), and more; Sage The Gemini has been equally prolific, with the above-mentioned single, “Gas Pedal” and now “Red Nose,” which was certified gold and is charting on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. The rest of the crew includes members Skip, Rossi, CJ, Jay Ant, and Kool John, who were all featured on the recently released crew mixtape, Gang Forever.
