The Album:

Fanatic followers of Los Angeles rapper/producer Hopsin and his independent Funk Volume label are eagerly awaiting November 26th for the release date for his sophomore album, Knock Madness. Today, Hopsin is revealing details of his forthcoming album, which includes guest features from Funk Volume labelmates Dizzy Wright, Jarren Benton, and SwizZz, as well as appearances by Tech N9ne, Passionate MC, and G-Mo Skee. The album’s 18 tracks include the single Hop Is Back,” the video for which garnered over one million YouTube views in the first three days of its release, and “Old Friend” which was featured in his Ill Mind of Hopsin 6 video, now viewed over five million times.

After being placed in special education classes, Hopsin dropped out of school in 2004, bought himself an $8 microphone from Wal-Mart, installed Fruity Loops on his computer, and locked himself in his basement, determined to become a rap star. After a dizzyingly frustrating “Industry Rule #4080” type of experience being signed to Eazy-E‘s former label Ruthless Records, Hopsin sat down and formed a plan to create his own label, Funk Volume, with the older brother of his friend and fellow rapper SwizZz, Damien “Dame” RitterAnd now, armed with with a fan base the size of a small army, the ability to consistently sell out 1000+ capacity venues and garner international press attention, and the successful formation of a steadily growing label under his belt, it’s safe to say that Hopsin indeed has become the rap star he set out to become.

A multi-talented visionary, Hopsin is credited with being a director, actor, and video editor, having been involved in the creation of all his music videos which have collectively amassed 135 million views and earned him over 647,000 YouTube subscribers. In the three years since the release of his debut album, Raw, which sold over 42,000 units, Hopsin has steadily increased his fan base by giving away free music, notably his Ill Mind of Hopsin series and appearing on other artists’ projects, including Tech N9ne’s “Am I A Psycho” video and Insane Clown Posse‘s The Mighty Death Pop album. Known and heralded for creating brutally honest music and saying whatever is on his mind, the 2012 XXL Freshman insists, “I don’t care to burn a bridge if I didn’t want to cross it anyway. I don’t hang around bullshit artists who convince me to make bullshit songs.” While controversy may have made Hopsin a star, skill and courage made him a fan favorite.

Hopsin Background:

Panorama, California native Hopsin faced many obstacles and controversy to get to where he is now. Hopsin’s obstacles first began as a child, being placed in special education classes and forced to believe that he would never amount to anything, which caused him to drop out of school completely in 2004. By 2010, Hopsin unhappily signed to a former label that failed to reach his artistic and commercial expectations.  Surviving all obstacles and controversy, Hopsin is now not only a successful rapper but also a producer, editor, actor and director. In addition, Hopsin is co-founder of indie power house Funk Volume. Funk Volume currently has over 215,000 YouTube subscribers and 235,000 Facebook Likes.  Hopsin focuses on how to engage fans with both sharp lyricism and careful branding, and brings forth a unique attitude and charisma that makes hip hop unpredictable again.

Funk Volume Background:

Funk Volume is a Los Angeles-based record label, marketing, and production company that been cited as a leader among independent rap labels with over 1.5 billion YouTube views, 1.5 million Facebook likes, consistent Top 10 chart placements on Billboard and iTunes and high profile write-ups in media outlets such as Forbes, Billboard, SPIN, LA Weekly, and many more. Founded in 2008 by internationally recognized rap artist Hopsin and Stanford MBA grad Damien “Dame” Ritter, the label was created with one thing in mind: protecting the integrity of the artist’s vision. Currently home to rappers Hopsin, SwizZz, Dizzy Wright, and Jarren Benton and more recently, DJ’s and producers Hoppa, Kato, and Rikia, the label has quickly transformed into being a label to watch by fans and industry insiders alike. Funk Volume recently released their first documentary, Independent Living, which captures the artists’ swift rise during their 44-date national tour in 2012. The next release from the Funk Volume label will be marquee artist Hopsin’s Knock Madness on November 26th. For more info: www.myfunkvolume.com
