Video: atm – “wholelottaguap” / “sunset” ft. Daydream Masi
The Mass Appeal Records Signee Takes a Tesla to the Corner Store, Before Ruminating on a Tragedy in the Visual Off His Recently-Released Debut EP
“If you like Playboi Carti or Lucki, you’re gonna love atm…His relaxed flow and undeniable knack for melody combine to create a carefree vibe that’ll have you hooked after just a few listens.” – ELEVATOR
Accenting innovative beats with his minimal and percussive flow, Teaneck, New Jersey native and Nas co-signee atm has mastered the art of the low-key flex. Bringing two of the best tracks on his debut self-titled EP to life, atm shares “wholelottaguap / sunset,” his latest video. In the first half of the video, atm takes his Tesla to the corner store to the tune of “wholelottaguap,” a bass-heavy banger. In the “wholelottaguap” section, atm flashes wads of cash and mobs with his friends in the high-class automobile. After the fun-loving “wholelottaguap,” the video quickly shifts gears to “sunset,” the shimmering, melodic centerpiece of the atm project. Filmed in Lower Manhattan, where the sunset rises over in the Hudson River in atm’s native New Jersey, the and guest singer Daydream Masi walk along cobblestoned streets, sway to the music, and hide in abandoned alleys. The addition of the subdued “sunset” to the end of the flashy “wholelottaguap” is a reflection of life’s yin-and-yang–atm released his debut project as he mourns the 12-year-old cousin of a close friend, who lost his life in a car accident last month.

Favoring organic instrumentation and atmosphere in his beats, atm uses his rhymes like a painter uses brushstrokes, with precise bursts of cadenced rhymes piling up to create an artful picture. On the atm EP, premiered last week by HipHopDX, the rapper works with producer Cor Blanco to craft an enveloping sandbox of sound, combining gentle topline melodies, often from guitars or ukeleles, with rattling bass and trap drums. Focusing in equal measure on romance and flexing, the new EP boasts spritely relationship dramas like the ukelele-driven “issues,” bass-heavy stompers like the recent single “wholelottaguap,” and atmospheric cloud rap like “miami nights.” The new EP kicks off with “rush,” atm’s breakout viral hit, which racked up 1.3 million streams on Spotify and 212k SoundCloud plays. Released by Mass Appeal Records, atm is the ideal release for the beginning of BBQ season.

Raised in Teaneck, New Jersey, atm dabbled in music as a fan early on, never realizing it would be his chosen path. Upon graduating high school, atm was bound for the University of Northampton in Pennsylvania, but plans changed after the first semester. “Basically, I got kicked out,” he says with a laugh. He knew he had to push forward and headed back up North. By then his high school best friends, producer Cor Blanco and rapper Puddah, were already cultivating their own movements, urging atm to bring his creativity to the forefront. “I figured, let me try this,” he says of making music. “And I liked it. I was good at it.”
On 4/26, atm will release his self-titled debut via Mass Appeal Records. After an unprecedented rise to the mainstream with his wavy, amorous track “rush”, the New Jersey native picks up where he left off, continuing down a road rife with infectious hooks and unmatched melodic flow. New cuts like the genre-bending “Sunset,” aspirational “Miami Nights” and bag-securing anthem “wholelottaguap” are sure to set the tone for atm’s future hit-making career.
