Critical Praise:

“He is definitely one of the most consistent artists out right now.” – Earmilk

“[‘No Job’ is a] capering, island-influenced jam by East Oakland’s ymtk (which stands for “Young Murph the Kid”) sounds like PARTYNEXTDOOR, but if he was on uppers. It’s a tropical, fun dance track that is sure to get you moving, and it’s like nothing else we’ve heard come out of the Bay Area this year. Now that’s saying something.”  SF Weekly

Emoji Goats is the type of breezy Bay R&B/rap fusion we need in a world that has regurgitated the same Drake-lite SoundCloud bedroom crooning for far too long.” Complex

The Video:

With a smooth singing voice and a supernatural sense of rhythm, East Oakland’s ymtk blurs lines between rap and R&B. Traveling down to the California coast, ymtk luxuriates in the video for Fall In Place,” a lush love song about taking it slow. Dancing atop cliffs and hiding in sheltered sea grottos with his beloved, “Fall in Place” is a confident and dreamlike visual, with kaleidoscopic, body-morphing visual effects. Produced by Ekzakt and Waxroof, “Fall In Place” is an appealing slow jam and a highlight from All The Right Places, ymtk’s acclaimed 2016 project, which featured “No Job,” one of SF Weekly’s Best Bay Area Songs of 2016.

“This song is hella reflective, and even though it’s set as a one-sided conversation with a woman about our status and future, it’s really just my thoughts conveyed out loud,” ymtk explained to GRUNGECAKE. “The beach is a representation of mind, that’s why I’m the only person there. The song is a conversation with myself, inside my own head. The end of the video shows me falling into a wave and never appearing again. This is a visual metaphor for letting myself/everything ‘fall in place,’ riding the wave and letting things happen the way they need to.”

Specializing in breezy rap-n-b tracks about romance and the high life, ymtk is currently preparing for the release of 9Song.Wav, his upcoming project. 9Song.Wav is an ideal record for California’s endless summer, speckled with harmonious guitar scratches, booming 808s, and drenched in reverb. Featuring appearances from P-Lo and Ye Ali b and boasting the previously released jams like “Undivided” and the VIBE-premiered “Confetti,” 9Song.Wav is a loose narrative about different stages of love, each song using different metaphors and double entendres to interpret complex emotions and situations. Releasing on September 29th and produced by Ekzakt, 9Song.Wav continues the momentum from Emoji Goats EP, a collaborative project with Rexx Life Raj, which Complex named an Album That Should Be On Your Radar.
