Pioneering a cerebral and lyrical strain of hazy hip-hop, wifisfuneral is one of the leading lights of Florida’s new wave. Showing off his colorfully painted sports cars, wifisfuneral benefits from illicit activities in the video for “Knots.” Teaming up with Brooklyn rapper Jay Critch, wifi strings together some of his tightest bars in the PVLACE, Izak & Smash David-produced track: “She move like Tekken, my drank when she bubble/Tastin’ my choppa, might pop at this dozen/In between good and the evil, I’m middle/Always thought, ‘Why was my life such a riddle?'” In the video, wifi and Jay Critch count cash as a team of sultry hackers, coordinated by comedian Fatboy SSE, attempt to secure more cash for the young rapper by wiring more money into his account. Premiered by Complex, the humorous new video is the latest release in the build up to Ethernet, wifi’s upcoming mixtape, following the syrupified single “Genesis” and the paranoid “25 Lighters,” which recently copped a verse from Curren$y on the remix. Earlier this year, wifi hopped on a remix to Comethazine’s DJ Mustard-produced “Sticks,” a couple of collaborations with Robb Bank$, and shared Last Time Doing Drugs, a joint EP with wifi’s longtime collaborator and producer Cris Dinero, which features an appearance from Craig Xen.

Growing to , wifisfuneral expanded his sonic world with 2017’s Boy Who Cried Wolf, his major label debut mixtape. Featuring singles such as the Joe Budden-cosigned “Joe Budden Probably Thinks I Can’t Rap 🙁,” the slyly self-aware “lil jeff hardy >:-),” and the posse cut “Centerfold,” Boy Who Cried Wolf reached #49 on Passion of the Weiss‘s list of the 50 Best Albums of 2017. Boy Who Cried Wolf was wifi’s second project of 2017, following When Hell Falls, which debuted at #17 on the iTunes Hip-Hop Chart.
