The Song:

On the heels of his recently released single “Case ClosedWara From The NBHD is fully charged and showing no signs of letting up any time soon. With his debut conceptual album Kidnapped only being released a month ago it’s amazing how the young emcee finds the inspiration to knock out consistently impressive material. Today the multi-talented creative releases a grimly smooth, heavily based loosie entitled “You Must Die,” premiering via Mass Appeal. “When it comes to that mass appeal, the shit be so real,” raps Wara, while in their premiere post, Mass Appeal says, “that’s the rawest shit you are going to hear for the rest of the year.” In addition, the Atlanta-based rapper was featured in The New York Times New Albums column this past Sunday, with the Times remarking that,  “Wara recalls the 1990’s of Wu-Tang Clan and the early 2000’s of Pharrell Williams‘s Neptunes and N.E.R.D.”

The Complex premiered album Kidnapped was the proper introduction to the 23 year old’s uniqueness and skill. Aside from complementing features from GrandMarshall and Two-9, the conceptual album received a rating of 7.7 on Pitchfork‘s Album Reviews. The site mentions, “Wara’s a writer and a slick rapper, a talented producer who knows how to shape an album’s worth of songs into a world.” The Pigeons & Planes premiered single “Case Closed” follows up closely, managing to carry the same rich emotion seen throughout the album. The 8-Track produced single is an introspective look into Wara’s relationship with his incarcerated brother. “The switch up of the beat drives the point home by being reminiscent of the roller coaster of emotions people go through when dealing with the ups and downs of life,” states Pigeon & Planes.

With his debut album Kidnapped still receiving notable accolades along with increasing amounts of attention for loosies “Case Closed” and “You Must Die,” Wara is well on his way to making a name for himself as a multi-talented artist. In his interview with XXL, the ATLien boldly claims, “My main goal in hip-hop is to bring back the art form; I’m going to be the biggest rapper/producer of my time.” Kidnapped is available on iTunes as well as an illustrated version of the the project you can check out here.

The Background:

Wara From the NBHD might be ATL’s next rising star. The Brooklyn born, Atlanta-based rapper serves as an embodiment of both of the areas he grew up in. An artist with a unique ability to blend both cultures seamlessly with striking lyricism and impressive production. This sentiment is highlighted with Wara’s latest release The Ill Street Blues a mix tape garnering critical praise from notable outlets such as The Fader, Complex and XXL. The project portrays a dichotomy of the good and bad Wara has experienced in his life, notably personified by his son sitting next to a gun on the mix tapes cover. His new release Kidnapped, is a concept album produced entirely by himself.
