Video: Trae Tha Truth – “Spray (ft. Jay’Ton)”
Tha Truth 2 Album Out Now, the Texas Rap Legend Delivers an Animated Visual for “Spray,” Debuted by Mass Appeal
Critical Praise for Trae Tha Truth:
“More concise rhymes, insightful and diverse subject matter, and solid features show how far Trae has come as an MC and a songwriter.” – BET.com
“Houston hip-hop veteran Trae Tha Truth may not be anything to you but down in the city of Screw Juice, the Asshole By Nature is the man in the streets” – VIBE
“Trae embodies everything that is Texas in an artist. He’s independent, strong and a survivor.” – SXSW.com
“Trae Tha Truth (or just Trae) is one of the more authentic artists currently operating in Texas, if not the South in general.” – HotNewHipHop
“Trae tha Truth is one of Houston’s most imposing musical forces, a bona fide legend in the harrowing streets of southwest Houston.” – Houston Press
“When it come to the streets, every n*gga gotta see me/ Everything I do a movie, shoulda been on TV,” Trae Tha Truth raps in the closing verse of “Spray.” Trae and his Assholes By Nature label mate Jay’Ton abide by the code of the streets while delivering doses of realism in the form of three verses, maneuvering from the stoop to the streets with his iced grill illuminating alleyways as smoke swirls around the Texas Rap God. “The video finds the Texas emcees adorned in all black as they melodically mourn for all those who would dare test them,” says Mass Appeal in their premiere post. “Trae spits in his trademark gravelly delivery, half reminding himself that his stature in Screwston breeds envy.” Directed by cartoonist Jay Sugarman, the animated video for Trae Tha Truth’s “Spray” aligns with the look of their TRAE cartoon series. Currently in its third season and airing via Fuse TV’s Explicit Language, recent episodes feature cameos from rappers Paul Wall and Snoop Dogg as well as comedian Lil Duval.
“Spray” is the latest video single from Trae Tha Truth’s Tha Truth 2 album, which debuted last Friday via The FADER, acknowledging Trae as “the hardest working rapper in Houston.” As is to be expected with Trae, Tha Truth 2 boasts a wide range of features from bonafide superstars Wiz Khalifa, T.I., and Rick Ross to street rap vets like Yo Gotti to top notch newcomers such as Watch the Duck and Quentin Miller. The second part of a two album series, Trae’s 8th solo album, Tha Truth 2, follows 2015’s Tha Truth. “Tha Truth 2 is more from the soul, it’s more dark,” Trae explained to Billboard. “It’s from the heart, the energy and vibe gives you that Pac feel, capturing the moment and displaying that pain, the passion, and the struggle in a certain way.” In an interview with XXL, Trae revealed that he remarkably has more than 1,700 unreleased songs recorded, adding: “When it comes to music, I never face challenges. I tell people all the time when I do my music it’s just me venting. I’m not going in there to make a certain type of record, or make a certain song, or catch up with a fad that everyone is doing. I just go in there and do me. Music probably be the least of my problems.” Trae Tha Truth’s Truth Tour concludes in Texas later this month.

Trae Tha Truth Background:
There are three ways to write about Trae Tha Truth. One is to talk about his music, and that’s important because he is a rapper and making music is what he does. The other is to talk about him as a human, and that’s important, because he has done some truly monumental and impressive things. The third is to talk about the intersection of him as a rapper and him as a humanitarian, because that’s where Trae really belongs. His music is often inspired by the experiences of the disenfranchised, which is rooted in the broken roads of the ghetto. It’s driven by loss, by love, by loyalty, and by when one or two or all of those things are taken away or tested of those he cares about.
Trae Tha Truth is very modest, he never talks about his guest features he’d done or any of his new tapes (Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, T.I., Nas, etc.) or how he’d landed another MTV JAM Video of the Week or how he’d signed to T.I.’s label or any of the things people were watching him accomplish from afar. What you need to about Trae is he is a rapper, who has only ever viewed rap as another way for him to help people. Trae Tha Truth’s Tha Truth 2 is the second part of a two album series, following 2015’s Tha Truth. The project came out on February 5th and is available to buy on iTunes.
Fans can catch Trae on his Truth Tour through February.
