The Video:

Life-long animal lover Sir Michael Rocks of The Cool Kids is releasing the music video for his self-produced track “Fuck SeaWorld” from his forthcoming debut solo album Banco, due July 29th, 2014. Full of references to animal worship, THOTS, and Final Fantasy XII game play, Sir Michael Rocks’ track takes listeners on a ride through the mind of the Rap Game Steve Erwin while showcasing his lyrical dexterity and production skills.

Sir Michael Rocks created the repetitive, bouncy lo-fi beat in a minimalistic way to let his clever, stream-of-consciousness lyrics hold court. “I was in my studio in Miami and I had just hit a point where I felt like I wasn’t getting the sound I wanted from producers so I decided to try my hand at creating this sound myself. I wanted a beat I could flow over with ease and be clever and let the lyrics paint a picture of how much my power trumps that of other men,” says Mikey. Complete with lines about popping a tire driving off-road, having his pet Marmoset named Trunks release a mixtape, Aeris Gainsborough’s death in Final Fantasy XII, and getting his rocks off with a female friend while on a nature walk, the rapper is shown at his most playful while flexing his wordplay and creative eccentricities.

Complete with footage of florescent flamingos, hyper-colored parrots, and kaleidoscope whales swimming about in what appears to be blood-tinged water, Mikey let director UNKLELUC take his two of his biggest passions, creating next-level visuals and his devotion to protecting animals, to the forefront. The video ends with Mikey giving an anti-SeaWorld rant, topped with a “Free Tilikum” graphic, a reference to the documentary film, Blackfish, released earlier this year.

Sir Michael Rocks’ album, Banco, features Too $hort, Mac Miller, Twista, Iamsu, Trinidad James, Casey Veggies, Robb Bank$, Pouya, and Chuck Inglish, featuring production from DJ Mustard, and showcases Sir Michael at his most inventive. Banco is will be released on July 29th on his own 6 Cell Phones label and is available for pre-order. Sir Michael Rocks also recently announced via Twitter that The Cool Kids will be ending their hiatus and reuniting to release their highly anticipated album, Shark Week, by the end of the year. This will mark the first album The Cool Kids will have released since their 2011 album When Fish Ride Bicycles

Sir Michael Rocks Background:

Sir Michael Rocks has always been a little ahead of his time, a little more original than his peers, a little bit more creative. As a teenager, he started making music under the name Mikey Rocks as one half of groundbreaking duo The Cool Kids. Formed over the Internet and powered by a strong grassroots fanbase online, the group helped redefine the image of rap for the Internet era with an effortlessly cool throwback style and an iconic, laid-back fashion sense. Rechristening himself as Sir Michael Rocks in 2011, the restlessly creative artist, now based in Miami after time spent in Chicago and LA, has been pushing the boundaries of rap originality even further in recent years with a string of popular, critically acclaimed mixtapes. As he explores an increasingly far-ranging set of ideas and prepares his solo debut album, Banco, the lifelong impulse to explore and innovate remains at the forefront of what Rocks is trying to accomplish.
