The Video:

Sir Michael Rocks has been causing a stir on Instagram and Twitter with his supposed National Geographic show/quitting rap announcement that he shared on April Fool’s. Yesterday Sir Michael Rocks released a video for “Pull Up,” surprising fans again and revealing that he isn’t retiring from rap after all. “Pull Up,” which premiered via Complex, is the first single from his forthcoming project, Populair. “Populair is the next continuation in the Banco saga, which will span from 2014-2024 AD,” Sir Michael Rocks explained.

The visual finds Sir Michael Rocks in a brutal, undisclosed winter setting. Explaining how he acquired the jacket that he wore in the video, he said “there was a type of wolf called the Tasmanian wolf that went extinct decades ago. Before their extinction, when they were still prevalent, a jacket was made from the fur (cruelty free).” Rocks also spoke about having bigger involvement on his upcoming project Populair, adding, “I am producing a good portion of this project myself with my own hands, recording it and mixing it myself as well. I wanted to unleash more of my abilities and I could only achieve that by getting my hands deeper into the process.”

“I basically want to give you that confidence to be original, to be who you are, to be yourself,” Sir Michael Rocks says of his music. Growing up as the youngest of three outside of Chicago, he developed a lifelong interest in the outdoors with nature looming as an influence in his music. His latest album, Banco, which takes its name from the Spanish financial institution Banco Popular (Popular Bank), is meant to evoke Rocks’ wealth of creativity, ideas, passion, intellect, and style. With his eccentric personality, Rocks is continuing to make the most experimental, energetic, and varied music of his career.

Sir Michael Rocks Background:

Sir Michael Rocks has always been a little ahead of his time, a little more original than his peers, a little bit more creative. As a teenager, he started making music under the name Mikey Rocks as one half of groundbreaking duo The Cool Kids. Formed over the Internet and powered by a strong grassroots fanbase online, the group helped redefine the image of rap for the Internet era with an effortlessly cool throwback style and an iconic, laid-back fashion sense. Rechristening himself as Sir Michael Rocks in 2011, the restlessly creative artist, now based in Miami after time spent in Chicago and LA, has been pushing the boundaries of rap originality even further in recent years with a string of popular, critically acclaimed mixtapes. His debut solo album, Banco, released in 2014.
