MP3: Ralo ft. Future – “My Brothers” (Prod. by Southside)

Noisey Premieres the Latest Banger from the ATL Rappers

08.16.2016

The Announcement:

ATL’s Ralo uses his helium-pitched voice and unique melodic rhyming style to steal nearly every track on which he appears. On My Brothers,” the latest entry in Ralo’s #FamericanTuesday series premiered today by Noisey alongside a Q&A, Ralo finds an ideal sparring partner in Future, as he holds his own with one of the most popular artists in today’s rap game. Produced by frequent Future collaboratorSouthside of 808 Mafia and featuring a monster hook from Hendrix himself, “My Brothers” bangs as hard as any track released this year, with both rappers discussing the bond they share, saluting their day ones, and shooting down their haters over a reedy four-note melody, a booming bassline, and Southside’s signature kick and hi-hat. Ralo and Future previously connected in 2015 for “Can’t Lie,” which has earned nearly 2 million views on YouTube.

“My Brothers” is the latest single from Ralo’s Birdman-hosted mixtape Diary of the Streets II, the sequel to last year’s popular Diary of the Streets, hitting the internet on August 30th. Featuring guest appearances from Future, Young Thug, Lil Uzi Vert, 21 Savage, Shy Glizzy and Birdman himself,Diary of the Streets II is a monument to Ralo’s stature on the streets, packed with melodic trap anthems and impressive songwriting about a wide array of topics that affect Ralo in his everyday life. Last week, Ralo recruited three of America’s hottest rappers for the Complex-premiered Flexing on Purpose,a monstrous, lurching turn-up banger with a massive hook from Lil Uzi Vert as well as verses from Vert,Young Thug, who brings his signature gonzo wordplay, and 21 Savage, with his nonchalant menace. Though that level of star power would dwarf a lesser artist, Ralo rises to the occasion, shining with his trademark charisma. Last week, Ralo released the Shy Glizzy-featuring, Noisey-premiered “Dear Your Honor,” a heartfelt plea for a fairer criminal justice system. With production from Southside, DJ Plugg, Weezy, and Goose, Diary of the Streets II is a unique approach to the Atlanta sound, elevated by Ralo’s depth of feeling and force of personality.

Born and raised in The Bluff, a notoriously dangerous neighborhood in West Atlanta recently featured in the film Snow On the Bluff, Ralo (neé Terrell Davis) provided for his family at a young age, selling CDs and DVDs on the streets while honing his rap skills. After gaining notoriety in the Atlanta trap scene working with artists such as Future and Young Scooter, Ralo founded #Famerican, a music movement and community foundation under his direction. Ralo represents a more conscious and empathetic take on trap music, balancing street tales with a deep sense of morality. “I’m not just rapping for exposure,” explains Ralo. “I want to bring people together. I want to have a good influence on the community; I want people to stop fighting each other.” Ralo recently released the eighth chapter of his video diary, which details his life on the streets of Atlanta, on YouTube.
