With his high-pitched drawl and streetwise wordplay, Ralo Laflare’s unique persona and perspective, as well as his connections to everybody in the trap game, make him a rising star in the world of Atlanta hip-hop. On Sunday, February 12, Ralo released Famerican Gangster 2, his biggest project yet, a trap carnival showcasing his wizened point-of-view with the assistance of some of the biggest names in trap music. Featuring Gucci Mane, Young Thug, Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Yachty, 21 Savage, Birdman, YFN Lucci, Jefé (fka Shy Glizzy) and RT Skool Boi and production from Zaytoven, Goose, Cassius Jay, Ricky Racks, Frank Forbes, and more, Famerican Gangster 2 is one of the year’s biggest events in southern rap music.

The release of Famerican Gangster 2 is also paired with the announcement that Ralo Laflare has signed with Gucci Mane’s 1017 Eskimo Records. The deal makes Ralo the first signee since Gucci’s release from prison last year.

Ralo said of the signing, “I’m excited about the deal with Gucci because I’ve never had a father figure or a big brother in my life. I’ve been looking for this role model because I’ve always had my own operation. I know that Gucci is gonna guide me in the right direction with the music, and so getting his guidance was important in making this decision over other offers I had on the table.”

Born and raised in The Bluff, a notoriously dangerous neighborhood in West Atlanta recently featured in the film Snow On the Bluff, Ralo (neé Terrell Davis) provided for his family at a young age, selling CDs and DVDs on the streets while honing his rap skills. Unfortunately, his youthful indiscretions caused him to spend much of his young life in and out of jail. After emerging from prison for the final time in 2015, Ralo found Islam, and he dedicated his life to making the streets a safer place through his music. After gaining notoriety in the Atlanta trap scene working with artists such as Future and Young Scooter, Ralo founded #Famerican, a music movement and community foundation under his direction. Ralo Laflare represents a more empathetic take on trap music, balancing street tales with a deep sense of morality.

The sequel to Famerican Gangster, the project that introduced Ralo to the music industry, Famerican Gangster 2 is an accomplished effort, packed with boastful anthems, contemplative ruminations, and pained expressions of conflict. In January, Ralo connected with Gucci Mane for “They Can’t Stop Us,” an unstoppable, FADER-premiered anthem. He recruited Young Thug, Lil Uzi Vert, and Lil Yachty, who dropped his signature auto-tune to spit a hot 16, for “Young N*gga.” Most recently, Ralo shared “I Hope It Don’t Jam,” a paranoid Noisey-premiered slapper featuring 21 Savage and Jefé, and “The Dopeman,” the album’s melodic introduction with an assist on the hook from YFN Lucci and an excitable exhortation from DJ Khaled.
