Mixtape:
Early this spring Wais P will release his new album, Pimpin Saved My Life, but before then, the rapper is releasing his latest mixtape, PV$$Y RICH, out today and available for download exclusively on DatPiff.
As the set-up for his album, PV$$Y RICH is not only a display of Wais P's talents, but also a platform for the rapper, who's also an active pimp, to continue to spread his Pimp-Hop movement. "I'm making music more tailor made to who I am," says Wais, explaining his direction with the new tape. "This is the set-up, and my album will delve even deeper into this life, and Pimp-Hop."
PV$$Y RICH features an impressive list of guests, names like Action Bronson, Devin The Dude, GLC, Mistah FAB, 8Ball & MJG, and more. But for Wais, it wasn't about chasing names, but rather collaborating with artists that he likes, that he felt would add to the project. "I wanted to work with artists that I thought were interesting," says Wais, "I wanted to work with charismatic personalities. Mistah FAB – he has a big personality; everyone knows Action Bronson; GLC is one of the most prolific pimp spitters in the game other than myself." And in addition to the big name features, Wais also uses PV$$Y RICH to introduce the artists on his label, Every Hood Records, artists like Took Da Locsta, who is featured on the tape's intro and the track "Real Pimps."
Beyond the features, though, Wais is the true star of the tape, delivering not only tracks that fall in line with his Pimp-Hop movement, but also songs like "G. Dep," a track that pays homage to the former Bad Boy rapper, currently serving time for a murder charge. "I tried to emulate his flow, which is still innovative to this day," says Wais of the track. "I wanted to be a voice for what he represents, and it's one of my favorite tracks on the mixtape."

"From Portland, Oregon, to Portland, Maine, people know my name," says Wais P in a rehearsed delivery. The emcee is not talking about his rap career, which spans back to the glory years of Roc-A-Fella, where Wais (pronounced "wise") and his Ranjahz bandmates were artists within Jay-Z’s infrastructure. He’s talking about pimping. While the Crown Heights, Brooklyn, native has remained active in hip-hop circles throughout the last decade, working with DJ Premier, Devin the Dude, Statik Selektah, and others, Wais P’s authentic raps come from another life rarely talked about in Hardcore East Coast hip-hop. "I’ve been in the Bentley and the big house, all that – without Rap. I had a $400,000 deal with Def Jam, and I made more in this life than music." Once a teenage hip-hop sensation, Wais recalls sharing Chinese food with Memphis Bleek in the mid-90s, recording with Easy Mo Bee and taking heed to the words of the man he considers a brother, Jay-Z. Following the success and acclaim of Wais’ sanctioned mixtape with longtime collaborator DJ Premier, Primo Pimpin', Wais P is now prepping the release of his Pimpin' Saved My Life album, which will include production from Harry Fraud, Tha Bizness, Statik Selektah, and Apathy; vocal guests include Sean Price, Roc Marciano, Maino, and newcomer Nitty Scott MC.
