The Song: Damn. A good woman is hard to find these days. On the latest free track preceding the release of A People Like Us, it sounds like Eyezon slipped up and let a good one go. In "Out O' Mines," he compliments her for being with him through good and bad and lets her know she's missed. Really missed. He may be laying it on thick with lines like "You pretty when you cry / But I never meant to cause you pain," but sometimes you have to beg a little bit to win back what you lost. Eyezon's verses and flow are strong on the track, but the production from Sean Lane really stands out, functioning as a picture frame, outlining the lyrical snapshots Eyezon delivers. Lane uses an old soul sample and some foggy distortion to give everything a nostalgic, underwater feeling that makes you wanna hug it out and talk about the good ol' days with the one that got away. With A People Like Us, Eyezon touches on variety of subjects, including the dangers and racism that were rampant in South Africa during his childhood as well as common issues of love, loss, abortion, and homelessness. When asked about A People Like Us, Eyezon says the title was a reflection of "the struggles that a common people can relate to." The album is brimming with the depth of emotion, vibrancy, and insight that is often put on the backburner in mainstream hip-hop albums.
