The Podcast:
It's been a couple months since we've heard from Tanya Morgan, but it's only because they've been cooped up in the lab, working on their upcoming EP, You & What Army. While we wait just a little longer for the November 22nd release of the EP, Donwill and Von Pea have reawakened their bi-weekly podcast, Lessondary Radio, with a special ARMY Edition show, which is available for free download today.
The hour-long episode, which was mixed by Von Pea, includes a few recent favorite collaborations, with familiar names including 9th Wonder, Skyzoo, King Mez, and Che Grand, as well as a couple unreleased mixtape songs from the duo. Tanya Morgan also discuss what, exactly, they've been up to during their brief hiatus and explain some of the concepts behind You & What Army. "This could be considered a crash course in TM current history," says Donwill of the ARMY Edition episode. "If nothing else, it should serve as a reminder to our faithful fans that we haven't gone anywhere and are making our way back to their iPods very soon."

The
Background:
Since their inception in 2003, the rap group Tanya Morgan has steadily built a strong foundation of fans and admirers for being what SPIN Magazine referred to as our generation's torchbearers for De La Soul. Following the release of Moonlighting (available in cassette tape format) and The Bridge EP, Tanya Morgan earned critical praise and Top Album of 2009 list inclusions for Brooklynati, which pushed the boundaries of a concept album by incorporating not only lyrical imagery but a creative, multi-tiered marketing campaign that included Brooklynati drivers licenses, an interactive Chamber of Commerce website, a welcome letter from the city mayor, ?uestlove of The Roots, and more. In 2010, they released a free downloadable album called The Sandwich Shop, cleverly crafted from a selection of rare instrumentals from The Roots. Earlier this year, Donwill and Von Pea released acclaimed solo albums, Don Cusack in High Fidelity and Pea's Gotta Have It, respectively. They have since reunited for the next Tanya Morgan project, You & What Army, which will be released November 22nd.
