The Video:

On February 19th, Sadistik will release his new album, Flower's For My Father, via Fake Four, Inc. The album, an ode to Sadistik's father, whom Sadistik considered his closest friend and whom passed away unexpectedly in 2007, features the likes of Cage, CunninLynguists, and more, along with production from Blue Sky Black Death, who produced the album's latest single, "City In Amber," which features Lotte Kestner, and for which Sadistik is releasing the video today.

The video, premiered this morning by Potholes In My Blog, was directed by Terrence Santos, and the inspiration for the video, which is shot along a stretch of highway in Seattle called the '99,' came from Sadistik. "When I drive from home to downtown, this highway runs along the waterfront of Seattle, and it's very pretty at night," says Sadistik. "When I wrote this song I was thinking about that drive; the scenery really sparks me to reflect on things."

The video, shot with a RED camera, takes on a cinematic feel, a look that stems from Santos, a film director making his first foray into music videos, and Sadistik, a serious film buff. "The reason we work so well together is because Terrence knows that I'm a film buff," says Sadistik. "I don't want my visuals to look like a typical rap video; I want my videos to be like short films."

The Background:

Flowers For My Father marks Sadistik's first solo album since his 2008 debut, The Balancing Act, and charts his growth in spades. Evolving his style to a more synthesized rendition of a signature cinematic Seattle sound, the new album displays a distinct combination of Sadistik's complex, vulnerable writing with textured, ambient production handled by the likes of Blue Sky Black Death and Kno of CunninLynguists. Featured guest performances from indie hip hop heroes such as Cage, Deacon The Villain, Astronautalis, and more result in his most developed, mature, and revealing project to date. Shortly after the release of The Balancing Act, Sadistik's father tragically passed. Never one to shy away from heavy topics or keep his personal life personal, Sadistik wrote this album for his late father, choosing to treat each song as an update of what has happened in his life since. This is reflected in writing which delves into depression, romance, heartbreak, optimism and the struggle to make sense of the ever-shifting pieces in the world around him. Flowers For My Father will be released on February 19, 2013 via Fake Four, Inc.
