Critical Praise for Roach Gigz:
"The funniest rapper working" - The New York Times
"Here's to the new age of rap. And Roach Gigz. Who is awesome." - The FADER
The Song:
Earlier this month, Roach Gigz announced an August 21st release date for his official debut album, Bugged Out. With that announcement came a video for "Going Off," and also the announcement that Roach will offer the digital version of the album to fans 100% free. While the move may seem unorthodox, it's a decision Roach made willfully, as a way to thank his rabidly loyal fans for their undying support, and it's also a decision that continues Roach's streak of eschewing any one standard blueprint and instead choosing a route that allows him to best reach his fans. And now, as Roach continues to separate himself from the pack, it's fitting that the latest track to be released from Bugged Out is today's offering, "Different."
As the title implies, "Different" is a song that finds Roach breaking down what sets him apart, not only as an artist but as a person, with Roach weaving together a variety of stories throughout the song's verses. "I'm 24 but I feel like I'm 50," raps Roach, his lyrics bouncing over Trev Case's screech-synth melody and brain-beating low-end. "When I was 19 it was me and Lil' 4 on a spree through the 'Sco/ Pills, trees, and some Bo."
And while the song is often looking inward, with Roach letting the listener into his psyche, it's also a track that encourages listeners to walk their own path and to celebrate their own individualism. "Everybody goes through things that make them unique or different from the next person," says Roach, breaking down the song. "You are who you are – be different and be proud of it."
To accompany today's release of "Different," Roach Gigz and website Yours Truly have teamed up for a special live clip of Bugged Out's lead single, "Wasabi." The clip was filmed live in Oakland, and cuts together Roach's charismatic performance with artfully done shots of the Bay.

The Background:
Hailed by The New York Times as "The funniest rapper working" and selected by 106 KMEL as part of the radio station's inaugural Freshman 10 class, 24-year-old San Francisco native Roach Gigz has become of the Bay Area's brightest young stars, covered by outlets like Pitchfork, FADER, XXL, MTV2 Sucker Free, mtvU, and many more. Heavily influenced by Mac Dre and the homegrown hip-hop scene that permeated the Bay Area during the 2000s, Roach has taken a similar approach to his music, telling everyday tales, comical but always true-to-life. Roach Gigz first gained local fame with close friend Lil 4Tay, as one half of the group Bitch I Go (B.I.G.), and since has released two successful Roachy Balboa mixtapes and a debut EP, Bitch, I'm A Player. To date, Roach Gigz has garnered well over five million YouTube views, amassed over 70,000 Fans on Facebook, and has over 18,000 Followers on Twitter. Now, Roach is prepping his official debut album, Bugged Out, the digital version of which Roach is making 100% free, as a way to thank the loyal fans that have supported him over the years. Bugged Out, which Roach will support with The Bugged Out Tour this fall, will be released on August 21st via his own imprint, Goomba.
