Metermaids, Sage Francis Tag Along For Second Take On Scroobius' Latest
The Song:
Early this month, Brooklyn duo Metermaids released their sophomore LP, Rooftop Shake. The album, including production from 9th Wonder along with features from 9th, Sage Francis, and Buck 65, was the duo's first release through Sage Francis' Strange Famous Records, and in the spirit of keeping things in the (new) family, rappers Sentence and Swell, along with Sage and Cecil Otter, are now joining fellow SFR artist Scroobius Pip for a second take on his latest single with the "Let 'Em Come (Redux)."
The redux, on which Cecil Otter also handles production duties, takes on a more somber tone that Pip's original, opting for ambient guitars and keyboard rolls rather than gritty bass lines and heavy drums. For their verse, Metermaids trade bars back and forth for maximum effect, as they weave a mix of dark lyrics with lines like, "Save the strong, drown the rest/ Mama's got to make sure these mouths are fed/ When papa comes through, he's gonna pound some heads."
While Rooftop Shake is now available for sale at all digital retailers, Metermaids and Strange Famous Records are also giving fans the opportunity to purchase a signed CD and limited edition t-shirt through the Strange Famous Records online store.

The Background:
Metermaids, a Brooklyn-based duo consisting of emcees Sentence and Swell, often refer to themselves as "the Bad News Bears of hip-hop." However, after teaming up with the X-Ecutioners DJ Rob Swift, receiving production from Grammy Award Winner 9th Wonder, and pulling in vocal contributions from indie-hop legends Sage Francis & Buck 65, their Rooftop Shake LP is ready to turn that self-deprecation on its head. Rooftop Shake is the latest in a series of boundary-pushing releases for the duo, including Nightlife In Illinoise (2008), HELLO (2010), and more, projects that garnered Metermaids over 100,000 downloads, and the attention of Sage Francis, who subsequently signed the duo to his Strange Famous Records. Rooftop Shake is available now via Strange Famous Records.
