The Song:

New York City duo, Marlon Rando, is the brainchild of singer/guitarist Greg Timmes (member of the garage rock band Web Dating) and jazz drummer Jeff Wilkins. The two coin their music as Mid-Fi (middle of the road fidelity) as opposed to the Lo-Fi style that has become well known in the Brooklyn indie rock scene. The band makes music "that all the kids can bop to," claims Greg Timmes.

With their upbeat single, "Weird Science," the tongue-in-cheek lyrics go hand in hand with the band's name. Despite the group's seemingly adolescent demeanor, Timmes describes "Weird Science" as "a purging of emotions" with relentless drum fills, washed out vocals, and an overdriven guitar. The song emphasizes minimalism with a two chord vamp as the verse and the delightfully simple guitar riff featured in the intro and breakdown while there is an absence of any traditional solo. The off-putting last line of the track will leave you dumbfounded with the bold testimony "If only you would fall in a k-hole and never come back ever again."

Marlon Rando will be releasing their five song, self titled EP June 29th with more singles to be dropped along the way.

The Background:

When Baltimore guitarist/singer, Greg Timmes and New Jersey drummer, Jeff Wilkins met in New York City in 2010 creative sparks began to fly. It was not long before the power duo Marlon Rando was formed. Following in the footsteps of bands like Gringo Starr and Truman Peyote, the band's moniker is a play on a celebrity's name. But for those who are not familiar, Rando is short for Random - specifically a person who shows up at a party that no one knows and starts stealing and breaking stuff. Their self-titled EP will be released on June 29th. It was recorded partly in Philadelphia and in Timmes' Alphabet City Apartment. The subject matter of the EP revolves around revenge, time and space travel, Staggered Rationalizations, and strange encounters. Marlon Rando intends to create a full soundscape that surrounds their audience and confuses the senses.
