The holiday season is now in full swing, and the men of Linus Pauling Quartet are getting into the spirit of giving by giving away their brand new single, "Assault on the Vault of the Ancient Bonglords." This beast of a track is the theme song to their epic 3CD career retrospective box set, Assault on the Vault of the Ancient Bonglords, now set for release on January 22nd via Home Skool Records.
According to guitarist Ramon Medina, the AVABL theme song was “a total lark” that evolved in only three weeks. “We were talking about the module at rehearsal one day, and I started singing the title in a high falsetto,” says Ramon. "Charlie and I wrote down some lyrics on a Star Pizza box, because that's the best place to ever write down lyrics, Clinton fleshed out his riffs, Larry upped the ante on the intro's drumbeat, Charlie took over on vocals, and voilá, metal magic!"
“Assault on the Vault of the Ancient Bonglords” is not only a riotous, head-banging anthem, but it also touches on the story that LP4 cooked up for the D&D-inspired module that comes with the box set. The saga involves a quest to steal two “bongs of power,” which are guarded by sleeping stoners, or “bonglords," in fortresses. If you wake the bonglords, they challenge the players to a Mortal Kombat fight to the death, and the winner becomes the bonglord; however, the new bonglord will inevitably become a stoner and just as lazy as the predecessor. This AVABL theme song is truly a call-to-arms for whoever should seek the bongs of power using the LP4 module.
