Critical Praise for Linus Pauling Quartet:

"A core point about the Linus Pauling Quartet isn't merely that they're a great psych band, but a great band period, able to embrace a lot of styles and moods and work them well. " - AllMusic

"Anthemic, stupid and selflessly unrestrained, the LPQ eventually attain self immolation of sorts during the sprawling chaos." - Ptolemaic Terrascope

"A quartet of Texas weirdoes who're smart enough to play it real stupid, mining that fine line between drug-induced idiocy and conceptual genius for way more than you might've thought it was worth." - Deep Water

The Video:

Linus Pauling Quartet has released an epic claymation video for "Crom," the lead single off the band's forthcoming LP Bag of Hammers, their eighth studio album, which drops September 18 on Homeskool Records. The band painstakingly created this video DIY-style completely on their own over the course of seven long months, which, in stoner years, is like an eternity. The track sounds like a cross between Motörhead and The Sword playing classic Sabbath riffs. Noisey described the video as "Beowulf meets Gumby with a double kick drum."

Guitarist Ramon Medina had this to say about the inspiration for the video: "We’re pretty geeky as we all grew up with sci-fi, fantasy, kung fu, video games, and cartoons, especially in university because we had so much smoke. So there is a lot of stuff in there from all that - Crom himself is an obvious tip of the hat to Frank Frazetta’s Death Dealer; the kung-fu dude is a tip of the hat to that most awesome of '70s actors, Jim Kelly, and people who know me can figure out who the heroine is based on. The rest of it is a mish-mash of Dungeons and Dragons, Robert E. Howard’s Conan, Tolkien, Shaw Brothers films, Jason and The Argonauts, Zappa’s Baby Snakes, and things like that."

The band will also release a career retrospective box-set later this year (They've been around for 19 years!)

The Background:

Pure guitar muscle and Texas stoner metal psych insanity with universal themes like drugs, beer, sci-fi/fantasy, and Bongs of Power. If you like your riffs heavy, the solos unyielding, and the smell of the bong to billow out of your stereo, Linus Pauling Quartet is your band. This face-melting, idiosyncratic band has risen from a long hiatus to bring us their eighth studio album entitled Bag Of Hammers - an instrument by which listeners, partaking in the ancient ritualistic burning of the herb, can break down the walls before them and attain the pure, majestic, plenary seventh level of heaviness.
