The Video:

The L.E.P. Bogus Boys released one of the most lauded mixtapes of 2011, the DJ Green Lantern-hosted Now Or Neva, and with March underway and SXSW around the corner, Count & Moonie continue to show off the project's strength, releasing yet another powerful visual from the project – the duo's fourth official music video of the young year.

Although L.E.P. are occasionally – and unfairly – labeled as unrepentant gangster rappers, it's really the nuances in their music that carries the group's message and sets them apart from the pack, and this latest single and video, "Faces," is a perfect example of that. "Youth around the world are indulging in crime, not knowing the consequences of their actions," explains L.E.P., "and before they know it, it's too late."

Roc N Mayne handle production on the track, lacing L.E.P. with darkly soulful instrumentation, and playing off the somber news clips that run throughout the chorus, Count & Moonie trade harsh verses that serve as something of a Psychology 101 lesson on why kids, often blindly, enter into a life of crime and violence. "Momma's baby; Daddy's, maybe/ Either way it go, shorty's shooting like he crazy/ Trigger finger itching like dandruff/ Wrists so little, they be slipping out the handcuffs," raps Count, opening his powerful first verse. Moonie counters in the second verse, rapping, "He ain't worried 'cause he 'bout to do 30/ Feeling like he 40/ Jumped off the porch early/ Momma was a dope fiend, daddy was a Hustler/ He ain't want him 'round, cause he was robbing all the customers."

The Background:

The L.E.P. Bogus Boys, comprised of emcees Count and Moonie, first garnered attention with independent releases Gang Bang Muzik and their Don't Feed Da Killaz mixtape series. The third installment in that series, released Halloween 2010, brought the Southside Chicago duo their first taste of national acclaim, with write-up's from MTV News, XXL Magazine, The Source, and more, along with video rotation on MTV Jams and BET. A year later, on Halloween 2011, L.E.P. returned with their latest effort, the DJ Green Lantern-hosted Now Or Neva, which is available for free download through L.E.P.'s website. In early 2012, the mixtape will receive a non-DJ re-release at retail, with a collection of added songs that feature Rick Ross, Bun B, Mobb Deep, 2 Chainz, and more.
