The Song:

As he continues to prep for his forthcoming EP, Re-Edutainment, a project revisiting the classic BDP album, Edutainment, Kyle Rapps holds us over with the fresh, non-EP track "Lazy Dayze" featuring long-time friend and rapper Silent Knight. This particular song, as the title would indictate, is of a more mellow strain and feeds off winter-ridden spirit's desire for the warm days of spring that are, we can all hope, just around the corner. "Lazy Dayze" is dominated by playful keys and synth lines that bounce back and forth while a steady beat, provided by producer Ray Contour, holds down the tempo. Over the beat Kyle Rapps can be heard flexing his comical abilities, opening with lines, "Turn letters like Vanna, never been to Montana / I'm already gifted son, the jokes on Santa." Inspiration on this track was simple for Rapps: "Some days are just lazy," says the New Jersey native, now residing in Harlem. "I wanted to bring the laid back, humorous vibes on this one. It takes me back to when I used to spark El's and write punchlines."

Kyle Rapps' debut EP, Re-Edutainment, produced entirely by Kev Brown and featuring Joell Ortiz, KRS-One, and U-N-I will drop on March 29th.

The Background:

With his roots firmly planted in concept driven hip-hop, Kyle Rapps exhibits witty and youthful yet insightful and catchy music. Under the moniker Black Skeptik, Kyle Rapps formed the acclaimed underground hip-hop group, Thought Breakers, who saw success opening up for such acts as Wyclef Jean, Fat Joe, Talib Kweli and Dead Prez, in addition to independently selling over 10,000 copies of their album, Episode One. More recently he released "Rent" ft KRS-One and "Frankenstein Saves Hip Hop (prod. Blockhead & video feat. Crazy Legs of The Rock Steady Crew)" under the same name. Solidifying a more positive out look on things, he changed his name to Kyle Rapps and release a third single, "Love, Love" (Featuring KRS-One and Homeboy Sandman), which reached #1 on the college radio hip-hop charts. Now, Rapps, eager to show people the benefits of combining hip-hop with education, is set to release his debut EP, RE-Edutainment in March, 2011.
