Earmilk Premieres Latest Video From Jack Davey's L0-F!
The Video:
The ever-unique Jack Davey, eclectic frontwoman of J*DaVeY, is gearing up to release L0-F! D’Lux, the crown jewel of her debut solo rock EP, on December 11th. Jack has ventured from her roots in electro-soul to create this new project, laden with raspy vocals and fuzzed-out guitars. To give fans another taste of her radical new image, Jack has joined up with Earmilk to premiere her latest L0-F! video for the single "Shit Gets Deep."
“This video illustrates the burning of my old self, so I can reemerge as a new artist with new content,” explains Jack. “I had a certain level of comfort with J*DaVeY, and now I don't really know what to expect anymore. After we released New Designer Drug and Brooke [D’Leau] signed on to tour with Miguel, the dynamic of my band changed. With L0-F!, I'm shedding J*DaVeY to be rediscovered as a solo artist.”
“Shit Gets Deep” was filmed at the notoriously seedly Hotel Cecil in Downtown LA, where Jack Davey and director Nai Vasha locked themselves in a room and had an introspective bender; it even lead to them trashing the place and breaking a headboard. The fire motif and shots of her photos in embers represents Jack’s emotional uphill climb into the world of a solo artist. “Sometimes you have moments of desperation, where one day you wake up and you realize everything is not what you expected,” says Jack. “You just have to shake it off, and hit the reset button on your soul. You have to step out of your comfort zoom in order to change.”

The Background:
Jack Davey, one half of hybrid electronic-soul duo J*DaVeY, is at the forefront of a reaction against the over-produced pop artists of today. Some of her professional milestones include opening for Prince, the Roots, Erykah Badu and Janelle Monáe, as well as licensing music to CSI: NY and Nike Latin America; J*DaVeY was also featured as LA Weekly’s Beautiful People cover story in 2011. Jack’s rise into the role of solo artist grew out of a period of artistic stagnation, coupled with the birth of her first child and the imperative to bring to light the new, raw sound playing in her head. The constantly evolving Davey picked up the skills necessary to express her dynamic vision, learning to play guitar so she could convey her intentions in a solo format with her new double EP L0-F!. For L0-F! Side A, Jack summons up kindred spirit Iggy Pop, and intertwined with it, her bluesy, confident voice declaring a new, stripped down incarnation of the artist herself and an era of straightforward rock. Side B includes further instrumentation and is produced by her boyfriend, Joey Strat of The Knux. L0-F! Side A was released October 2nd, Side B on November 6th, and a D'Lux edition including both EP’s, three new songs, and a digital booklet will be released on December 11th.
