	Brooklyn's Soft Black Rocks Green Screen For Project's Second Performance

The Video: In anticipation of the forthcoming EP We Scatter Light, Brooklyn-grown Soft Black, announce the release of a music video for the track ‘Lions’, shot during CMJ 2010 for the Green Screening Project. The song was featured on 2009's critically lauded album The Earth is Black. In a scene flooded with electro-pop acts, Bushwick quartet Soft Black stands tall as a throwback to the days of proper rock n' roll. In true antiestablishment fashion, keyboardist Christopher Ibrahim even lost his day job at Eataly to perform in this video from the Green Screening Project. Soft Black was familiar with the South Brooklyn environs of the shoot, as recording studio Seaside Lounge was where the boys created their album The Earth is Black, and in turn were discovered by Green Screening director Drew Norton. Much has been written about the band's perfectly weathered sound, including high praise from *Rolling Stone, who call them, "A bizarro-world Neil Young with less polish and more paranoia." Well known for making music inspired by lead singer Vincent Cacchione's nightmares, the song "Lions" presents a raw and uncut sound, unapologetic and unfeigned. Drew Norton's imagined green screen setting matches the song's title to an aesthetic tee. Backed by an African savanna, the video depicts a violently brutal lion clash, the perfect setting for Soft Black's plaintive nightmare. Soft Black play next at Brooklyn Bowl on January 21, and are already in the studio producing their follow-up LP, The Witching Hour. A further two appearances on the Green Screening website are scheduled for later in the year. The site will showcase in total thirty-five videos along with curated extra footage, audio, pictures and interviews. Already live so far is a feature on Dale Earnhardt JR JR, with a psychedelic video inspired by their NASCAR theme. The Project: Green Screening* was the brainchild of Brooklyn-based, Virginia-native director Drew Norton. Over the past year he has been working independently with indie labels such as Rough Trade and Barsuk to create music videos for up-and-coming acts that bring to life their sound, represent the band's brand, and also get traction and exposure online. His reel is at vimeo.com/user628221 Drew wanted to work collaboratively with artists and create a faster-turnaround production model and to get the Green Screening project off the ground has managed to raise thousands of dollars via crowd-funding site Kickstarter. Twenty-eight talented acts signed-up to come to Seaside Lounge studios in Park Slope, rented out especially by Drew, to lay down a live track for at no expense to the artist or label. They all performed in recording space decked-out in full "greenscreen" backdrops so that bespoke visuals could be added in afterward. This event was held in parallel to the CMJ Music Marathon in October 2010, a time when many bands were in town to showcase their music, and when the spotlight was on the Brooklyn scene.
