The Song:
"One," the second single from G&D's The Message Uni Versa, packs more soul than a sock with a hole… and an afro pick wedged into the hole. The artists formerly and still-elsewhererly known as Georgia Anne Muldrow and Dudley Perkins are not fond of the separation all around us; and thus, they cordially invite you to "take a trip on the One." Perkins sets things off with his patented, verb-defying rap delivery over quirky organs and a hopping bass, courtesy of Muldrow. Muldrow is also featured on the track vocally, of course, questioning, "Why must our children suffer for another full grown man's convenient life style?" The answer G&D proposes is twofold: 1) we must realize that we're all connected to one another and 2) "funk in your ear hole."
The Background:
Georgia Anne Muldrow and Dudley Perkins, two of hip-hop's newest and most unique voices, have teamed up as G&D to create what could be at once the most soulfully truthful and bizarrely innovative release of 2007. The Message Uni Versa (Look Records) encompasses elements of soul, funk and dusted hip-hop topped off with so much optimism and raring energy that it barely contains itself. Composed of already accomplished solo artists - Georgia Anne Muldrow as a multi-instrumentalist, producer, and singer and Dudley Perkins as an unconventional rapper backed by the production of Madlib - G&D are determined to spread love, hope and unity. "The album title means one song in the universe; we're trying to reach the masses through this album to let everyone know we are all one" explains Dudley. The Message Uni Versa will be in stores on September 25th.
