(January 24, 2013 – Brooklyn, NY) There are few labels in hip-hop doing it quite like Funk Volume. Co-founded by Damien 'Dame' Ritter and flagship artist Hopsin, the Los Angeles-based label, now home to a full roster of artists including Dizzy Wright, Jarren Benton, SwizZz, and DJ Hoppa, has made a commitment to protecting the integrity of the music, and in doing so, offers a creative platform, a place where artists can freely express themselves without outside control or pressure.

That freedom is apparent across the label's releases, and for the label and their unique approach has paid off in droves. Hopsin was included in XXL's 2012 Freshman class; he's headlined his own nationwide tours; he has multiple videos with over 20 million YouTube views; and, across Facebook and Twitter, he enlists over one million fans and supporters. Dizzy Wright, from Las Vegas, released his new EP, The First Agreement, in December, and he too now has been nominated for a spot in XXL's 2013 Freshman class. Jarren Benton, from Atlanta and signed to Funk Volume last year, will kick off the label's release schedule with his official debut album this spring; and SwizZz is expected to round out a full schedule of releases for the label, following Jarren, Hopsin, and Dizzy, with his own official debut album later this year.

Today, to officially kick Funk Volume's 2013 into gear, Hopsin, Dizzy Wright, Jarren Benton, SwizZz, and DJ Hoppa are unveiling the video for "Funk Volume 2013." The second annual posse cut from the label ("Funk Volume 2012" has now over one million views), Hopsin opens things up with a catchy, half-sung hook, with SwizZz, Dizzy Wright, and Jarren Benton each taking a verse, before Hopsin closes the song with a verse of his own. The video, co-directed and edited by Hopsin and George Orozco, pairs the track with an appropriately trippy visual. The clip's main subject, halluinating, thinks that each of the song's rappers is after him, trying to hurt him, when in fact the truth is quite different.

The Background:

Funk Volume is a record label, marketing and production company founded to give hip hop artists a home to freely express themselves without feeling controlled or pressured by any other outside forces. Currently home to Hopsin, SwizZz, Dizzy Wright, Jarren Benton and DJ Hoppa, Funk Volume's plan is to represent only the sickest, most talented, and most creative artists that we can find. The label's objective is to produce music that it feel competes with any other artists or labels in the industry. Funk Volume is not a "movement", not a "gang", not a "squad." Funk Volume is a commitment – to protect the integrity of the music and conduct our business properly. It is a commitment to hip-hop, to its fans, and to each other.
