Hip-hop duo Fly Gypsy, comprised of producer Alexei and emcee Kowboy Kom, drop a comprehensive track from their new work, The Vodka and Rum Mixtape, entitled "Imagination." The song conjures images of John Lennon's "Imagine," as this is a politically charged message with a more contemporary focus: the modern day black male in the post-Barack Obama election era. With a catchy hook that features Kom's soulful and delicate voice, Alexei serves up the perfect compliment with Tupac's verse from the Nas's "Thugz Mansion." Kom says this creation process is the typical pattern for Fly Gypsy tracks, but the selected samples definitely keep things interesting, "Alexei was flipping through verses for collabs and found those two and he liked it," says Kom, "I think my verse tells a story for this time and place in the now. Tupac and Nas go in different directions and their verses were off the same song." Between the nods to Obama, MLK, and Malcolm X, and the use of two of hip-hop's most glorified emcees, Fly Gypsy certainly knows how to put together an all-inclusive track.
