The Video:

Poetic and skillful MC Esinchill is back with a new video for his Jake One-produced single "Daddy Was A Sailorman." The second video of off the Oakland rapper's sophomore album, Vigilante, available now via Clear Label Records, provides a complex visual for the song, which describes Esinchill meeting his father in a dream and reminiscing on the influential choices he made when he was younger. Sprinkled with actual photos of his father in his Navy uniform and Esinchill as a child, director Casual of WetFoot Filmworks captures the track's surreal feel by going back and forth between reality and washed out dream sequences. Along with a literal fork in the road, the video paints a picture of the challenges that arise when becoming a father, and the important message that Esinchill wants to convey. "Always be a father to your child, no matter what life may offer," says Esinchill. "I have a daughter now and every decision starts and ends with her, just as I suspect my dad's did."

The Background:

You may not be familiar with West Coast rapper Esinchill (pronounced Essential), but you should be. A chance meeting with Digital Underground's legendary front man Shock G led to three national tour stints, progressing from roadie to opener to "stop the show, it's Esinchill time!" He's since went on to share stages and receive accolades from the likes of KRS-One, Redman, DJ Quik, and more, and so a career was born. Soon after, Esinchill released his debut, Everything To Lose, and has remained busy writing R&B tunes for artists including Latoya London (of American Idol fame), Lil' Stevie, Dave Hollister, and the legendary Lenny Williams for the song "Tuesday," which peaked for the soul singer at #23 on Urban AC radio. Esinchill has just released his new album, Vigilante, on April 19, 2011 via Clear Label Records, which includes features Dave Hollister, Mistah F.A.B., Casual of Hieroglyphics, and production from Jake One.
