The Video
:

As DubbleOO Space Age continues to build towards the online release of his latest mixtape Beast Mode, Vol. 2, an effort that will precede his own sophomore solo album, in addition to a joint album with Bay Area rapper The Jacka, he's today giving fans the chance to check out the video for "The World We Live In," pulled from Beast Mode, Vol. 2.

The track, which comes across as some of DubbleOO's most heartfelt work to date, was inspired after a show in Seattle, when a string of homeless children, none over the age of 16, walked past the front of the venue, where DubbleOO was standing. "I just remember looking at them and thinking, What's going on?" says the Pacific Northwest-bred rapper, who splits his time evenly between Portland and the Bay. "In the van on the way to the next show, I just sat in the back, letting my emotions flow onto paper - no restraints; just raw emotion."

The video, directed by Beejan Iranshad, does well to capture that same emotion. And, although it wasn't planned, the weather on the day of shooting proved fortuitous in delivering the video's harrowing feel and direction. "As soon as we began to shoot, the sun began to vanish on the beach," remembers DubbleOO. "A storm front came next, with lightning - it was almost like the weather started changing with every lyric, and it became a perfect illustration of the raw emotion of the track."

The Background:

Born in Seattle, Washington, and raised in the Portland, Oregon, DubbleOO had music instilled in him early. His father was in the R&B group Ladies Choice and toured with Marvin Gaye, and DubbleOO spent his childhood years surrounded by singers and musicians collaborating in his home. At 17, DubbleOO relocated to the Bay Area for college and began to pursue music around the same time, selling homemade mixtapes and eventually forging fruitful relationships with the likes of E-40, The Jacka, Messy Marv, Mistah F.A.B., Cool Nutz, and more. In 2008, DubbleOO sold 5,000 copies, independently, of his debut album, Space Age Hood Slap, and followed that success with Beast Mode Mixtape, Vol. 1, moving 20,000 copies of the tape, a project that found him collaborating with Big K.R.I.T. and others. Next up is Beast Mode, Vol. 2, which includes features from Too $hort, Messy Marv, The Jacka, and more, and will be released for free online in the coming weeks.
