(April 1, 2011 – Brooklyn, NY) SWTBRDS production collective Drums & Ammo, comprised of Al Jieh, Ammbush, 6Fingers, and REL, are excited to announce the release of their upcoming instrumental album. Titled Vol. 1, the new project will be released for free download on www.SWTBRDS.com on April 14, 2011.

It's about time Drums & Ammo came together to officially release a collection of their instrumentals. If you've been listening to West Coast hip-hop in recent years there's a very good chance you've heard your fair share of Drums & Ammo production. Various members have produced and worked as recording engineers for Raphael Saadiq, Exile, The Grouch, Keak Da Sneak, Messy Marv, PSD The Drivah, DaVinci, Moe Green, Bambu, Del the Funky Homosapien, and many more.

While each producer brings a distinct style to the table, their shared musical influences allow them to create a cohesive sound. "Even though we're a group of producers who each have our own aesthetic, we share a unifying element, which is our Bay Area influence," says Al Jieh. "As varied as we are, all of our music possesses that difficult-to-describe but instantly recognizable Bay Area slap aesthetic. Ammbush's production style is hard and sample-driven, REL's style has more of that laid back stoner feel, 6Fingers has that mad scientist feel, but it's that distinctive Bay Area slap that unites us. And in keeping in step with West Coast production style, we also played live instruments on top of the samples."

With their new album, Vol. 1, that slap is on full display, and while producers are often forced to operate behind the scenes as the driving force behind an artist's vision, Drums & Ammo are putting their own names on the marquee with this new release. "The DJ and producer, for me, was always the guy that held down the foundation," says Ammbush. "They have been and will remain an important and key part of the process." Adds Al Jieh, "This project communicates that, as a crew, our sound is extremely diverse, yet all of our styles share a common Bay Area musical influence. That's what keeps Drums & Ammo sounding cohesive," explains Al Jieh. "We're really about maintaining our identity out here. This is West Coast music, but the sound is global."

Drums & Ammo's Vol.1 will be released on April 14, 2011 on www.SWTBRDS.com.
