The Song:

Today, XXL premieres “KnowntchooTahLie,” the second single from The Doppelgangaz‘ forthcoming album Peace Kehd. Flanging synths, raw snare hits, a thunderous bass line, and rolling percussion elements have EP and Matter Ov Fact in their comfort zone as their witty and satirical lyricism flows fluently. EP raps about a woman who’s “damn near forty” but “a straight dime,” while Matter Ov Fact shares his story of a lady that’s “damn near eighty” with “spider veins” and “crows feet.” They explain: “We just came back to NY from meeting up with some mature women out of state. They copped us plane tickets and took care of us in every way, shape and form possible. That type of treatment makes you want to write a certain type of track, you feel me.”

Peace Kehd is available for pre-order and set to be released on CD and vinyl, as well as digitally, on February 18. It’s the follow-up to 2013’s HARK, which was named the #2 NY Hip-Hop Album by the Village Voice. The menacing and grimy feel of The Doppelgangaz’ music belies the whip-smart humor that they’re known for. As XXL says, “The Doppelgangaz are New York rap in its purest form.”

The Background:

The Doppelgangaz, comprised of rapper/producers Matter Ov Fact and EP, are a standard bearer for the New York hip-hop scene. Through the duo’s own label, Groggy Pack Entertainment, The Doppelgangaz have dropped a string of EP releases as well as instrumental projects. Its after these releases that the duo saw their biggest success – the Doppelgangaz have over one million YouTube channel views; they reached number one on HHV’s Top 100 list, Europe’s top vinyl retailer – and they’ve done it all independently. They wrapped up a European tour supporting their album Hark, released earlier this spring, and are now preparing to release their newest full-length project Peace Kehd dropping February 18.
