Critical Praise for DELS:

"Deep, cerebral and inventive... The future of UK hip-hop" - The Times

"A fresh sound in UK hip hop, DELS' debut LP is an off-kilter winner.” - The BBC

"This is what Jay-Z would sound like if he grew up with the London house movement of the ’90s and felt no need to waste time with raps justifying a past career in drug dealing." - CMJ

(April 5, 2011 – Brooklyn, NY) Our mates across the pond have been steadily churning out quality jams, and none of them have been working harder than Ipswich, England's own DELS, who is excited to announce the release of his debut album, GOB. The MC, who is signed to London's premier hip-hop label Big Dada, will release the album on May 24th, giving fans a chance to grab the digital version of the album beginning May 9th.

Born Kieren Dickins to Jamaican parents, DELS has quickly made a name for himself in the UK scene as a rapper and graphic designer. With GOB, DELS puts both skills on the forefront; selecting fonts, creating the album's artwork, including special artwork for each single; directing the videos for the project – DELS' fingerprints show up in every facet of GOB. DELS was also meticulous about the production on GOB, hand selecting only three producers for the album, experimental songstress Micachu, Hot Chip's Joe Goddard, and London producer Kwes.

Many issues are covered on DELS' debut record -- there's the bad-trip anthem "Melting Patterns," the angry break-up lament "Violina," the exploration of a homeless woman in "DLR," and the true story of rape and child abuse told in reverse on "Droogs." But while the album has the potential to seem a downbeat record, it's the brilliance with which the subjects are treated, along with album closer and title track "GOB" that gives the music power.

"GOB," produced by Kwes, shows DELS as ultimately hopeful, rising above the darker subject matter in preceding tracks, and for the music video, he illustrates this sentiment with simplistic yet eye-catching visuals. While running through billowing smoke with black paint dumped on his head and white powder smashed into his face, he repeats, "I won't get swallowed by the gob/ I won't get swallowed by the darkness/ I won't get swallowed by the fog." The song was so profound that there have already been three remixes made, with the lead remix coming from TV On The Radio's David Andrew Sitek. Sitek spent over two weeks in and out of the studio perfecting his own interpretation, a combination of classic era boom-bap drums, trademark audio atmospherics and beautiful vocals from Jack Davey of J*DaVeY.

DELS' debut album GOB will be available for purchase on May 24, 2011.
